It's actually probably best that people log off their messengers and internet when doing an online match. I imagine it lowers the lag.

Your friend code, I'd imagine. You get it when you first log into your wifi from the main menu of the game. I think.

You just need your Brawl Code, which is separate from the Friend Code that connects two Wiis. To nab it:

1) Go to the Online menu in Brawl and connect to Nintendo WFC.
2) Hit "With Friends"
3) Hit "Friend Roster

At the top, you'll see a bar that says "Me", along with a 12-number code. That is your Brawl code, and is what allows us to connect to you. The "Friend Roster" is also where you'll place our nubers, so we can play games against one another.

I don't actually know how to hook a Wii up to the internet. Do I need a specific wire?

I usually use a router or a nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector to get my Wii online.
