Curious... I paused it midway because I didn't really understand one point, so maybe some higher being can enlighten me.

If you were to go back in time and "trigger the specific events" that led to your younger self inventing something that would find you with an amazing amount of wealth in the future, that would mean your current state wouldn't exsist... right?

By changing the timeline you have eliminated the outcome of a future where you hadn't gone back, namely the current you. You would have erased your own exsistance.

But since it was you as a child being changed, would you suddenly regain consciousness in your new future's body?

No, because, you have simple branched youself into another possibility of your existance. Each possibility coexists; you just moved (the hard way according to this site) into another "timeline" while your's is still intact, just minus you.

I think. Man its easy to get messed up with this multi-demensional crap.

So, actually you would have created a new timeline by yourself other then the naturally occuring ones? One were you interupt the development of your childhood to create a future and another where you would have to return to your own timeline.

That would mean your interaction in that other timeline would have no effect on your own life and therefore would have been a meaningless effort unless you want to go ahead into that timeline, kill yourself, and take over that life.

But then you would gain more strength once you've killed yourself in that timeline! =o I smell a movie plot.

It could have ogne on. If one of the points in the tenth dimension didn't include one possiblilty because it wasn't possible due to the laws of physics, then it was a different point than the one they drew. So another line was possbile. So, actually there are infinite dimensions.

Also, it stated that such things as the laws of gravity can be different in alternate dimensions so it could undoubtedly apply to the laws of physics as well, giving even more consequential dimensions. But that is practically restating what Will said.

A quick and dirty (3 hour) run down on String Theory which these extra dimensions are closely related to. The extra dimensions are actually created in order for String Theory to work.

Also, if oyu were to enter another universe, where the laws of physics differ by any slight amount, you would dissapear. >.> They didn't think of that did they?

For the sixth dimension, they mentioned quantum physics, but they used teh Copenhagen interpretation, which I have commonly heard referred to as a bad interpretation, but at least they didn't really use it too much.

Although it is correct that string theory (an outdated M-theory) has ten dimesnions, that is kind of a poor way of viewing it. Look up 'Calabi-Yau shapes'; you will find that what that video explained is quite different.

Also, it sounds as though it was using the many-histories interpretation of quantum mechanics, which says that at each moment in time (essentially every Planck second, which is about 10^-43 seconds), our Universe splits off into each choice that it can make. Essentially infinite, but not exactly.

Read The Elegant Universe. There are plausible experiments to verify string theory.
