Yes, people do still read these.

So, let's talk about books. So I'm reading this one called The Cunning Man, by Robertson Davies. I'm not too far into it yet -- I like it so far. It's very detail oriented, but then not in the way that Silas Marner was. It actually flows very well, and makes the information interesting to read. The first few chapters of the latter novel bored me to tears.

I'm on the last two books of Ian Irvines "The well of echo's" which has 4 books in it which are about 900 pages each. I love it, before it I read "The view from the mirror" which is 4 books the same size. He's a brilliant writer, and I can't stop reading these books.

1) No they don't.

2) Back when I used to read, I was heavy into satirical dark comedy stuff. Chuck Palahniuk and Kurt Vonnegut mostly. I checked out Slaughterhouse Five from the library, it's just sitting up on my bed though.

Actually I was into a lot of stuff. William Gibson (Neuromancer was so awesome), Milan Kundera (Czech romance novels ftw), Chuck Palahniuk, F. Scott Fitzgerald (one of the few guys I read in school that I returned to later on).

Let's not forget my fav rave, Philip K. Dick. A Scanner Darkly > We Can Build You > Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep. The way he could just tear at your emotions during the last couple of chapters, despite the overall mood of the rest of the book, was just astounding.

Yeah.

I'm re-reading a few Laurell K. Hamilton books, rereading Narcissus in Chains from the Anita Blake series, and A Lick of Frost in her Merry Gentry series. They're insanely erotic, but not to the point to where fucking is the main plot of the story, like romance. These are more sci-fi/fantasy/crime fiction than anything, and her imagery is AMAZING.

Good authors are the ones you can reread and never get tired of. This would be one of them.

I read alot. I fell out of it for a few years but I'm getting back into it. I'm mainly into Fantasy or Sci-fi. A little historical fiction is good too.

Right now I am rereading 'A Game of Thrones', by George R. R. Martin. Excellent book, and I'd recommend anyone who likes low fantasy to take a gander at it and the others in its series 'A Song of Ice and Fire'. Its probably one of my favorite series ever, right there with Tolkien (though its a very different kind of read).

Reading the Dune series. Still. There were way more books than I originally thought. xD If any of you like Sci-fi and haven't read at least the first book, then I recommend doing so. It influenced Star Wars in many ways (depending on your viewpoint, you could say that Star Wars stole a few ideas). Sadly, the author, Frank Herbert, died before he could finish what he wanted to, but his son is continuing his work.

Right now I'm on Heretics of Dune, the fifth book in the series.

Ditto.

I actually bought A Game of Thrones last year, but I only made it about a third of the way through. Wasn't a big fan, but I'll probably finish it later.

Right now I'm reading the Dark Tower (the last of the series). Never read any Stephen King before, but it's pretty epic.

I'm even getting tired of the routine myself, but I feel obligated every time.

DARK TOWER SUCKS.

Thank you.

I'm currently reading Physics of the Impossible, Nigger: the History of a Troublesome Word, and Ulysses. I often can't stick to one book at a time.

Its weird I don't even think of them as 'reading' in the same thought as fiction, but the SMERT BUKS I'm reading right now are 'Alexander to Actium' and 'The Origins Of War'.

Only Ulysses will prove a challenge - the others aren't difficult or anything. I heard it was quite the difficult book, and it appears do.

No! Don't listen to him! A Song of Ice and Fire is evillllllll. It'll string you along, then it'll cut you off in the worst way. Tim just wants other people to share his pain.

EDIT: And yeah, I like to read Fantasy and Sci-fi books. However, they have to at least have a romantic subplot since I'm such a big ol' pus--er, softy at heart.

I don't read as often as I used to, but right now I'm reading the Communist Manifesto, and the original book version of I Am Legend, which is not very similiar to the movie, but it's quite good.

I don't read much these years. When I do it's explicitly to absorb ideas for my own uses; pretty much the same reason I still watch movies and TV shows. (which is why I'm super judgmental, if I wouldn't use it myself then I think it's not worth the bother)

The Silmarillian is probably the only book I still regularly leaf through, it just has too many good ideas.
