My new work schedule is annoying. I'm currently working on trying to possibly get a better job that is a morning time job instead of this chaotic "never know my real hours" job.
I had to request two days off this coming schedule. May 19th (I wanted to see Star Wars. Wouldn't have requested it, but two other people did so I just did as well; otherwise I'd never have the time, and you'll see I'm right in a moment.) and May 21st (My gf's graduation and the new Magic Prerelease all in one, though I probably can't make prerelease, I mean come on, my gf's graduation is a hell of a lot more important. Depends on if her family decide to kidnap her for the day, and if they do, me and a friend are going to be doing 150 on the way to ATL)
So what is my schedule? Well, to finish out this schedule (end of this week):
I open 4:15-Close today, off tomorrow (someone is begging me to work for them, and this person works two days a week), 3:15-Close Saturday, and Standby on Sunday. What that means is that I can't make any plans b/c I have to be able to call them fifteen minutes before opening and find out if anyone has called in sick and then haul ass to work in time to open (I have to be showered, dressed, and ready to work when I call them.) No big deal? Someone calls in on average 5-6 days a week. In fact, Tuesday this guy Sean D. calls in. I end up having to stay in his stead. Yesterday, Sean G. just no showed and later called up with some bs reason (he was out getting high the night before with half the staff) and a few minutes later Sean D. calls in (found out Sean G. called in, and had been up playing Halo all night and didn't want to have to stay for him.) That was two people yesterday alone. Then there are my 6:00 days, which means I and one other person go in and sit around for a minimum of two hours doing nothing until they cut me, or decide they are busy and have to seat me with tables. Or I have to stay b/c someone called in sick. That's what happened to me Tuesday. Sundays this position is 5:00 instead. Ok, well, here's my schedule:
Assume on all of the following days that I won't be getting home until 12-1am and you get the idea.
Mon 16 - 6:00
Tue 17 - 4:15
Wed 18 - 3:45
Thu 19 - R (Requested off for Starwars)
Fri 20 - 3:45
Sat 21 - R (Gf's graduation)
Sun 22 - 3:15
Mon 23 - 4:15
Tue 24 - 4:15
Wed 25 - 6:00
Thu 26 - S/B
Fri 27 - S/B
Sat 28 - 3:15
Sun 29 - 3:15
Might I mention that if I call in a couple of minutes late on a S/B day, that counts as either being actually late to show up (as if I had had to be there by that time) or the same as no show. In other words, writeup. So if its within an hour of time, I have to basically not get my attention onto anything that might distract me and I have to make sure to not lose track of time. And just sit there waiting to call.
This sucks ass. Royally. Meanwhile, one of the woman there just took a four month vacation (she works two days a week, and always needs help for the smallest thing and has this huge attitude, but she's Asian = immaculate.) Other people no show/ no call all the time, and there is no punishment. Well, sometimes they end up being suspended for two weeks. In other words, if the lazy ass doesn't feel like going in one day b/c they were playing Halo or poker with all their money, they just don't show up and have a sudden two week vacation with no threat of losing their job (manager makes me change my off days to cover for the days they can't work) so they can go to the beach. And then he bitches me out when my gf calls and says she has a school meeting and will be late (DON'T LET IT HAPPEN AGAIN OR YOU'RE FIRED.) Total bullshit.
And no, I'm not going to be "at least making a lot of money from this" because somehow, no matter how many days I work, I make less than any other person there, even though they are slackasses. (A lot has to do with the fact that they take short cuts and cut certain corners that would get you fired immediately, and I have bad luck so they never get caught but I would. I've seen some of them use the manager's code to void their table and pocket all the money before.) Most I make will be about 1100.
