[9] Zarbon's Mind
#1
Darkness came into his view, the shadow blocking out the people around him. The pure black overwhelming his vision. Zarbon had been blacked out, thrown down on his back. By what? He had no clue. What was happening seemed so familiar to him. Was it death? No, his demise was not yet. He didn?t feel the pain that came with the loss of life. So, where was he? His eyes began to flicker open, spotting faint mists drifting above him. Most definitely not dead. Death didn?t have this sort of effect. If he was dead, he would be seeing an ogre and yellow clouds. So, the transformer wasn?t a lifeless corpse, but where was he. His sight fully returned to him, his strength slowly came back, allowing him to get on his feet, though very slowly, making sure to keep a steady balance. Whatever had knocked him out could still be around, but he shook that thought off him as soon as he saw where he was.

It was an area he had seen before. An area of pure darkness, and yet one of light. Below his feet, beyond a non-existent floor, was a great light, one that glowed as blue as a sapphire. Above the floor was the mist which had seen before, and beyond that, there was nothing. Nothing at all. A dark void which could shallow a man because of its substances of hatred, sorrow, and everything else that can be put on the sinister side of the mind. For that?s where Zarbon was. The middle of his brain. It was sort of set up with a Ying-Yang style, and he was on the border line of the two. The mutant had been here before, whilst fighting the Fear in the Shadow Mountains.

?Here again?? Zarbon whispered to himself. ?But why?? The transformer walked forward, taking glances from side to side. He was here for something, and he knew that perfectly well. The Fear had brought him to face his demons. Would he have to do the same again? Had he grown more and more in such a short time? Zarbon?s question would soon be answered, for from the shadows above him, a piece of darkness stirred, and began to watch the mutant as he walked through his mind.

As the shadow watched from his high haven, the mutant below thought furiously of why he would be here. He remembered a battle, a fight with everyone left in Friend or Foe around him. A man had burst in on them and had taken out three people before leaving, and then there was nothing. A hole in his train of thought. It was around then he had blacked out, or so he guessed.

After the transformer had finished reflecting, the shadow came into the picture.

?Well, I see the owner has come.? The being of pure darkness smirked as he spoke, his voice echoing around the transformer?s mind. Zarbon stopped dead, and fidgeted his right hand. ?Awhile since I?ve seen you here, ever since you defeated that invader. He didn?t dig very deep though?Might as well as you?re here.?

?What?who and where are you?? The transformer said in a serious voice. His fingers stopped fiddling around and formed themselves into a gun-like shape. ?And what do you mean by dig deeper??

?Deeper as in deeper into your nightmares!? The shadow screeched insanely. ?You?ll see who I am in a minute, just you wait.? The being of pure darkness floated down towards Zarbon, practically invisible to his eyes. As the mutant?s eyes shot there and back again, he caught nothing of the shadow?s presence until it was too late. The darkness hit the ground, rebounding immediately onto the transformer?s back, and then splitting into several parts before slithering into the mutant?s mouth and down his throat. Zarbon choked for a moment as the shadow went down into his body, controlling it completely in seconds. The transformer couldn?t move at all.

?I am your fear. I?m sure you have seen me before?? A voice began in the mutant?s head. ?I was used by your opponents once I remember, and now I have you in my grasp yet again. I didn?t expect you back so soon. None the less, I will torture you until you awaken, that is my duty, to make you see what the things you dread are and exploit them until you can no longer go on. Unless you can escape of course, but I highly doubt that.? The shadow slithered unbearably, making Zarbon grit his teeth.

?I hate my mind.? The transformer thought in annoyance, and the darkness being picked it up immediately as the thought came to be.

?Get over it, for the next little while, you?re my bitch, and trust me, I?m going to make your life a living hell.? The shadow Fear stated solidly. ?Now get ready to face terror beyond belief!?

Zarbon?s mind faded, and as did his vision of it.

The transformer awoke upon a throne, his body in new clothing, almost royal in fact. He wore a scarlet wool cape and a crown: so, he was royal it seemed. The presence of ?fear? wasn?t detected anywhere, at least by the eyes. The mutant opened his eyes fully and saw himself to be in sort of a hallway. Pictures of him lined a wall with checkered wallpaper that matched a tiled floor. A red carpet lead to a doorway at the far end of the area, in which two guards stood, which were exactly the same as two guards that were by the seat he sat upon.

?I see you?re finally awake Lord Zarbon.? The guard on his right spoke as he turned to the transformer. The mutant knew something was different here?Lord Zarbon? That was new to him. It was very nice to be called that, but he would love to know why. As the thoughts passed through his mind, the sentry continued. ?It is nearly time to address the people. Come, we?ll guide you along as always.? The two guards by his side snapped to attention and began to march off. The transformer followed, though slightly nervous. He had no idea what was happening.

They made their way through the place. There were pictures of Zarbon everywhere, from every angle, every moment of time, everything! Paintings, photos, and all that were there, hung upon the walls. The transformer had guessed it already: this was the Fear?s doing, but what he truly wondered what this was his fear of. This was his ambition: how could he dread it at all?

Soon enough, the guards lead Zarbon to a door, telling him that he would give a speech to his citizens. The transformer flung the door open in wonder and stepped out onto a balcony with white railing and a platform to stand on. What was beyond the railing is what made Zarbon?s heart stop.

Out there was a world of pain and suffering. The town was old and battered: ruined in many places with buildings thrown down. The people could be seen along the cracked streets wearing clothes fit for a homeless person. The transformer didn?t doubt that most of the people here lived in a cardboard box in some dark alley off of a poor street. The funny thing was, he was in a sort of palace, which should look like a beacon of hope, but when Zarbon looked down below him, he saw people swarming, people with soulless eyes: dead inside. This palace was a form of hatred to them.

A voice haunted his mind.

You?re just like him.

?I think I won?t talk today.? The mutant lied as turned away and walked past the guards in sadness. He knew why that shadow had brought him here now: his thoughts from before about himself and Brim, and how his needs would make the transformer like the host in all ways: a cruel power hungry bastard. The mere consideration of that sickened him that if he performed his ambition, achieved it in all its glory, then he would be just as bad as Brim. The funny thing was that it was true. Zarbon started to go back to the throne to ponder, but was stopped by one of his guiding guards.

?Don?t you remember sir? The arena is today.? The sentry said frowning. ?We gotta get down there to see it, it?s your rule.? The guard grabbed the transformer by the arm and lead him along. Whatever was next would probably be worse then just looking into a couple of sad eyes.

The guards directed him out of the palace and onto the old streets, down to another area of town: it was even worse there. The people of the city just stared at him, muttering sadistic words and cursing his name, the word Zarbon was said so low it reminded the transformer of the chief and how he said Brim, like he was a piece of filth.

Exactly the same.

The transformer gritted his teeth and went onward towards the stadium the sentries had told him about, and after going through a maze of buildings for an hour, it was finally ahead of them. It was made like an upside-down dome. As they entered, Zarbon saw it was just like the arena in Rome, with seats going all the way down the battlefield, and he was Julius Caesar, sitting on a little throne up at the top of it all, waiting for the fight to begin.

Two beings entered the arena. One was a short man, bald, scarred up beyond belief. He looked to be beaten and had fought many battles. His mind seemed to be torn by the treatment of him, and his face showed that. Rage boiled beyond his skin. The appearance of the warrior shocked Zarbon, as he knew exactly who it was.

?Krillin?? The transformer let the word fly off his tongue so softly, that only the man beside him could hear.

The other being was an ogre, also very familiar, he looked like Satan, and not just a bit: exactly. Every hair that was on Satan?s back was on this guy?s. He carried a large spear. Zarbon knew where this was going, and looked down towards the ground in sorrow.

The two leapt into combat, the midget starting with a few swift kicks to the ogre?s head before going back flipping down to the ground and taking a hard hit by the beast?s fist, flinging him to the other end of the arena. The small body hit the wall hard and fell to the ground, charging at the Satan clone before him. The bald man dodged various harsh blows with his quick reflexes and rebounding into solid attacks on the monster.

The ogre let out a roar and let out a hard punch at the bald man after one of his strikes, watching his rebound carefully before throwing his spear towards his landing spot. The lance sped through the air, the spike piercing the bald man, impaling him right through the chest. Before his eyes closed forever, they shot a glance towards Zarbon. It crushed the transformer, but the crowd?it cheered.

Giving up human lives for a bit of entertainment.

?Shut up!? The mutant shouted and held his head, grinding his teeth as he tried to hold back the tears that were coming to his eyes. Guards nearby looked up to see if he was hurt, and one approached to see if Zarbon was ok. ?Get away! I just want out of here!? He clearly wasn?t. The sentry led him out of there before he caused some sort of scene.

Later, the transformer was back at the palace created by the fear, still gritting his teeth over what the shadow had simulated before his eyes. Little did he know, the darkness was just getting started with him. Without knowing this, he sat in on a bed in a sort of royal bedroom, with a large bed along with a huge closet and a few desks with pictures, yet again of him. He sat there pondering what the Fear was doing, as the shadow taunted him even farther.

So similar: two power-hungry bastards would tear apart a family just for the satisfaction of a few ratings, a bit of entertainment, and a way to prove that you are on top.

?Shut the hell up, you bastard!? Zarbon rose to his feet, thrashing a few items off a table before lying back on his bed, breathing heavily from the strain this was putting upon his mind. He wanted out of this emotional hellhole as quick as possible. ?Let me out of here!?

This is my duty, once again: you are my bitch.

?I am not your bloody bitch!? The transformer grinded his teeth with the force of a rampaging elephant. ?I?m out of here!? At that moment, an explosion was heard outside, and the flaming arrow broke through a nearby window, hitting the bed and setting it on fire immediately. The flames rose to the ceiling and began to spread across the room. It goes without saying that the transformer was out of there in an instant.

All over the palace a rebel attack was beginning. People were rising up against the tyranny that ruled over them. The guards were already rushing into the streets, slaughtering the offenders on sight. A few were left to defend the fortress and protect Zarbon: though they couldn?t find him. He was hiding in the hallways, watching as the battle went on.

Playing coward, just like Brim.

?I am not him damn it!?

The sentries retreated after a few of their men got hit with a few arrows in the face. One dropped their sword near Zarbon before racing off into the palace. Unfortunately, the transformer was utterly alone now; the revolters were turning the corner towards him. The transformer clutched the sword and got ready to bat them off.

You?re alone.

They came around with full force. Upon seeing the one they hated face to face, they charged at him, running right into a bloody mess. Soon, there were Ki cooked bodies on the floor along with a few decapitated ones. Most of them were dead or knocked out due to the transformer?s superior skill.

You have no one left to help you, no one left to be your friend.

Zarbon picked out a man from the crowd. It was a man with long white hair and a broad moustache. He had paint on his face like Braveheart?s. The old man screamed wildly before rushing the transformer, swords in both hands and clashing with him in a battle of sneaky swordplay: slashes and jabs were all over the place. The mutant managed to outmanoeuvre him after a minute in the fight when the man jabbed at his heart, Zarbon side-stepped and jabbed before he could do a thing. The man fell, his face flashing quickly to Twenty?s as he fell.

And here you are, tearing apart families and friends, as you will do someday.

The mutant bit his lip as more people rushed towards him. ?I am not like him. I wouldn?t do this; in fact, I don?t want to rule anything anymore! Have my bloody crown! I will not be Brim!?

END OF ROUND

Refusing to strike down anybody, Zarbon lunged backwards to avoid getting clubbed in the head with a fearful looking spiked stick. "Please, stop!" He cried, ducking under another swing and trying to shove the attacker away. "I beg you, I don't want to hurt you!" Zarbon lept back, this time flipping in midair and forcing his hands out. "Extra Graceful Cannon!"

Though he didn't want to, for his own survival the young transformer was forced to blast all the attackers with his most powerful blast move. At least twenty or thirty of the homeless victims were struck by it, flying back. All of their faces reminded Zarbon of the friends he had lost. Friends he blamed himself for.

Just like you, Zarbon. Murderer

"I had to..."

"No, you didn't. And you never will again." Zarbon turned to see a familar figure. The Watchman, old and wise, standing with his wrinkled hands behind his back. "You are a good soul, but you must learn it." Zarbon simply nodded. "What do you fear?"

Fear? What an ironic question. Zarbon took a moment, and spoke.

"I fear myself."

The Watchman chuckled. "How very true." He let out a warming smile. "I'm afraid, Zarbon, you have much to learn. Much to do before you can help others. I will send you back to where you belong, where you can learn the things I cannot teach you."

Before Zarbon could speak, everything faded. The bloody battle in front of his own castle was gone. Just black.

And quiet.
