Martial Arts Spec vs. Foresight
#1
Figured I'd ask here since there's at least one similar post in this section.

Aim: Belle Hibiki is a character that has lots of innate talent in martial arts. Rather than having a super refined style, however, he has the ability to adapt to his opponent's style of fighting. While fighting someone, he subconsciously gathers information and comes up with a counter, eventually being able to predict with startling accuracy where a punch will go, how his opponent will react under a certain pressure, and act accordingly almost before a move is made.

I wanted to know which power would best fit that concept between MAS (where this ability would be derivative) and Foresight (where it's a more literal application). Could it be done with either? If so, what would be the differences between them?

I think you can pull it off with either.

However, it's worth nothing that if you had MAS and someone else had Foresight, they would be slightly better at predicting how things would turn out, which means you wouldn't be able to 'predict their moves'. On the other hand, if you had Foresight and THEY had MAS, you would be able to predict things significantly easier, however they will have the 1-up on you in terms of actual martial arts skill.

In terms of writing a fight, either of those will work, however, you still have to know the difference between the two. Personally, I think MAS would work better for Belle given the description you just gave me. Just remember that even if you can start to predict what your opponent does, it's only because guesses and speculation at the end of the day, you arn't really seeing the future unless you have Foresight.

Does that make sense?

Yeah, makes sense. I'll give it a little more thought, but thanks for the quick reply.
