Enjoy your job?
#1
Lets see if this catches on... just something to get your fellow people by...as most are over 18.... I think

1. What do you do?

2. Do you enjoy your job?

3. Why?/Why not?

4. What did you do before this job?

5. Why?

6. COmments:?

----------------------------------
My own answers

1. Now a Cashier mostly on the dead shift

2. Actually..yes. I hate that I got during DA... But... Shit happens... I might follow the rule book and try to get everything done to much... but thats me... it's my compesnation of not doing construction...

3. Get me off unemployment... and I can smile even when I mess up on the register and challenge myslef to get it right... And I guess im a good fit with the troop.

4. Constuction....Pipelayer/ Laborer/Loader operator for a few years.. Premature road work grademan/pipe layer/operator... operator/cleanup crew/concrete helper/carpenter helper....

5. All my jobs I have been family related in some way or form. Its hard to get a job else where and ... I panic under pressure sometime(Interviews).

6. Every job I've had...I got the 'family' vibe off of the crew... You help your friends out kind of deal. I'd rather have a shovel then run a Cashier as it seems less ....manly... but I guess a 5'10, 280 guy is better on a midnight shift then a woman.

I still work during breaks... but it's not fulfilling enough... Not strenuous...enough lol Cept for standing so many hours...

I actually want them to get rid of the dude im planned on replacing soI can go full time...

I'm making with 32 hours.... with taxes just about as much as I was taking from unemployment without lol

1. What do you do? - I work at a produce stand. I man the stand, which means presenting the produce, bagging, 'opening' and 'closing' the stand, and dealing with customers.

2. Do you enjoy your job? - As far as jobs go, it's great.

3. Why?/Why not? - I get to do whatever I want when there aren't customers. I got quite a bit of reading done this last summer. Too, the customers tend to be terribly interesting. Had one guy who pulled up in a rusty old hippie van with broken bicycles and stained mattresses rope-tied to the top. He bought a peach, ate it, and for the next hour-and-a-half, sat next to a box of tomatoes and told me that we should rename the stand 'College Fun Produce' and have some skimpy co-eds drinking spirits, and that I should study in the Asian mountains with the gurus before I become a minister, and that it is terribly important to de-toxify oneself. He flirted with every woman (20-60) who bought things, and told them his 'secret' recipe for a cleansing drink with honey and peaches and stuff. My boss had to tell him to leave as he was freaking out the customers.

Another guy (Wolfgang) told me Bill Clinton was no different than Kim Jong-il, and that he remembers fleeing the burning fields of Berlin in the throes of World War II Germany, and that he hated John F. Kennedy because he was stationed in Germany during his Presidency and wanted to go to France for a race but couldn't because JFK arrived for his 'jelly-donut' speech.

Another woman told me she felt she could tell me things and talked about her alcohol addiction and that she was recovering and that I should read the text of AA as it is a great spiritual resource that changed her life.

4. What did you do before this job? - Worked at a fish market where rich people were upset if their shrimp weren't done when they got there

5. Why? - Because I need money.

6. COmments: My next 'job' will probably be at a church.

1. What do you do?
I sell building materials at a hardware store. Design plans for decks and framing basements, shit like that.

2. Do you enjoy your job?
Kind of? I guess? It's extremely stressful in the summer, and I get way too many hours during school until the dead of winter - it makes all the other things I need to do (ie: homework, try to have a life) very difficult.

3. Why?/Why not?
It's hard work, which, ultimately, feels more rewarding. When February rolls around and I'm doing nothing all shift, I'm miserable.

4. What did you do before this job?
Assembled hydraulic cylinders at a manufacturing plant. I made excellent money there, but I hated my life at that point. Everything. So I walked off the job and applied to a university. I got accepted so I had to go find a job with more flexible hours so I could actually go to university.

5. Why?
I need the money. I pay my own tuition, I own two cars, and I have to buy the essentials. It's a bit of a crazy balancing act and I rarely have any money I can sock away, which is really too bad (and kind of foolish).

6. Comments?
Uuuuum... I'd rather knock over a bank than work for a living? Or, failing that, win the lottery, I guess. =/

The seasonal swings of having anything to do with the construction industry are absolutely ridiculous, for anyone who doesn't know.

1. What do you do?
I'm an IT technician that works for any business in my town that wants to outsource IT maintenance. That kinda sounds like I work out of my house, but I'm part of a company with three other techs.

2. Do you enjoy your job?
Yes and no. The work is pretty good since I'm just jacking around with computers all day, and it feels great to fix a problem you worked at for a while or couldn't initially decipher. However, there's a bit too much work to go around for three full time techs and I hate having to deal with clients, especially stupid and fussy ones. Which seems to be growing every day.

3. Why?/Why not?
Well, I already outlined why I like and hate it. Although, I get a free company car with unlimited personal access (so free petrol) and a company phone with free credit. I don't have a lot of expenses (nearly none, in fact) so it's a great chance to save money like mad until I work out where I want to go from here.

4. What did you do before this job?
Worked at a locally owned ISP called CQnet. My mate got me a job there and I learned the basics of computers (that surprisingly university taught me none.)

5. Why?
Because I have a degree in IT and when my parents told me to pick something for uni, I said computers. They're interesting and although stressful from time to time, aren't particularly difficult. Plus the money's good and when I get the big head honcho job, I plan to be raking in lots while doing little and assigning all the jobs to my underlings.

6. COmments:?
Preferably, I'd love to write for a living rather than using computers, but I don't really know where to start. Ultimately I'm going to try for professional writing as my career.

1. What do you do? - I work as a barista at Starbucks. It's a licensed store at my school's dining hall.

2. Do you enjoy your job? - Somewhat. I enjoy making drinks, even if they are all fruity, coffee-y things. I just hate when there are 80 bajilion people and my coworkers are too stupid to be of any help.

3. Why?/Why not? - I'm the only male who works there. There was one other male and he was gay. The management is mostly middle-aged white women, with some awkward college girls as well. All this estrogen leads to bickering and gossip that I'm forcibly exposed too at all times. I'm also always the odd man out...because I am, in fact, a man.

4. What did you do before this job? - I was a Resident Assistant. I got paid to deal with idiots and do a lot of stupid, frivolous work. I loved the job (mostly).

5. Why? Because I need a job to pay for rent and essentials. If I didn't need to pay for anything, I'd totally work as a lab assistant or something similar.

6. Comments? - Exactly what Sage said.

1. What do you do?

I work for a locally owned video game store that's starting to expand (they had 2 stores, one closed because the building was in a bad neighborhood and needed renovations. They just opened a new location in April and I applied for it and got the job!)

2. Do you enjoy your job?

I really do, but sometimes I feel awkward or unsure about myself because I'm the only girl at my location (only two girls between the two stores). I also don't know as much about games as I would like to, but it's hard to remember everything.

3. Why?/Why not?

What I like about my job is that, for instance, I'm at work right now lol! We mess around on the internet when it's slow, although if a boss knew I'd get in shit, but he works at the other store mostly. My other two bosses that co-own the business use the internet too. I also get discounts on games, rentals, and I get to buy them before they're released. I'm learning a lot, and it's pretty fun.

4. What did you do before this job?

I was an Assistant manager at a pet store, they fired me for no valid reason, and I went to work in shoes for a month or two before I came here. I was at the Petstore the longest of any job I'd had, and I was ready to make it a career but not anymore. They even hired me back, but now I'm full time at my current job so they can do without me.

5. Why?

Why do I work? Because I live on my own with my boyfriend and we pay lots of bills together. I lucked out to get a job that's interesting, though.

6. Comments:?

I don't know where I see myself in the future, still doing this or getting a career...but regardless I'm happy. I only get about 30 hours a week, but I hope in time I'll get 40 and I'll get respect and show that I do belong here.
