Essentially ruining most of the point of time travel, as the only way it would have an impact would be if you either travel back in time and gathered some knowledge that could change the future in your own time line or do the same by traveling into the future instead (and then travel back with the new knowledge).

Since we're talking space and shit, anyone see the movie jumper? The theory for wormholes is that everywhere in space is linked and you can move to any point you want just by creating a rift or a wormhole.
