Old Republic PvP
#1
Firstly, we should totally cannibalize, say, the ancient Conquest forum and make it one for ToR. >.>

So, how's everyone digging PvP so far? Done it with a few classes and I have to say:

Huttball all the way. I get this 90% of the time and I'm totally cool with this because the other two are just turtlefests. The Alderaan turret place is always decided by who takes mid and keeps a solid defense there since it seems impossible for either side to muster up enough people to take the enemy sides and the VoidStar one, I've never seen offense win. Even when offense is just murdering the hell out of the defense, there just doesn't seem to be enough time to break through all the rooms and from there the zone seems to just randomly pick a winning side.

Huttball is just an awesome murderfest at all times. Sure, there's always that core around the huttball, but it's easy to have fun fights on the outside without getting attacked by a horde, and the layout is pretty much the only zone I can use my Sniper in to any real effect.

Absolutely hate huttball as a Marauder though. I have, oh, one gap closer and one moderate slow that requires me to be pretty close to use and I can never stick to anyone. At level ten on my sniper I found out why after totally dominating a lvl 50 marauder: Infinite CC. Seriously, a sniper can kite those poor guys all day. Leg shot, ambush/snipe, cover pulse snipe back up, flash bang, back up and pewpew, leg shot, pewpew, debilitate, back up, leg shot, cover pulse, it just never ends. They're not tanky enough to eat the burst from an Operative, can't stand toe-to-toe with a Juggernaut's crazy tankiness and huehuehue sorcerers, always shield, never die!

One thing I love about PvP the most is how quick getting gear seems to be. On my sniper I'd just queue every couple quests on Dromund Kaas to break up the monotony of doing that place for the 8th time and at level 20 I had implants, helm, chest, and legs with a couple hundred commendations left over. That character at least is probably going to have a pile of PvP epics before she hits 50. Indeed, everyone but my assassin and Marauder likely will be decking out from Huttball.

Oh it's completely possible to win as offense. I should know because my team lost in like 2 minutes.

I wanted to wait until I was level 50 to try PvP because I suck at MMOs and I wanted to learn my abilities and stuff. But I just blow loads at all three modes. Doesn't help that I get 4 fps, but I still suck at PvP. Fun as all hell though.

Huttball is my favorite on my Juggernaught. She's 42. It's also the only Warzone where I get above 10 FPS. They're working on it though so I'm waiting patiently. The Sith Warrior forums are ablaze with what you mentioned about your Marauder. Both Advanced Classes lack in areas where others classes (even Knights) don't. A major concern is that we're too squishy. Our most damaging attack (Pommel Strike) cannot be used in PvP and we don't have a 4 second stun (Like that of a BH's Electro Dart).

My Assassin enjoys the hell out of all of the pvp modes. Here is the problem I have on Huttball though... I had two games where every single time the ball was grabbed by our team members, they would run back and kick it over our wall. Someone said that Huttball griefing was "the new sport" after the fifth time that game of it happening by the same people, despite us saying "go the other way!" There is also an issue of people just not caring about the objective... at all. A ball runner picked up the ball from mid when I was on a ledge waiting for a fire trap to turn off. They ran the entire way through a crowd of people without passing until they were almost at the line. I finally caught up to them there and jumped on them, blowing each of my cc in turn but not quite being able to kill them before they just ran past me onto the line. Meanwhile, a set of three teammates respawned and dropped down to run past the ball carrier to three man the guy behind him. "/1 pwned"

Really hoping crap like that levels out a bit. When I said something in chat, the response was "lol who cares abotu huttball anymore?"

Other than those types of occurances though, its a blast.

Ironically enough I find the most involving and interesting PvP modes to be the least fun in practice, because people are dumb and ignore the objectives. Alderaan goes well because it has the highest probability of people actually getting their shit together and not just treating it as Team Deathmatch, and even then it's fucking tentative. Huttball is generally a frustrating nightmare because of shit like the above, in my experience.

Just played 2 warzones as my 18 sorcerer and finally won a few games. I was at the bottom of the charts both games, but at least I got a look at what it means to win. :3

PLaying a tank is surprisingly satisfying, at least for my Powertech. Always get the 2 and 5k protection medals, the killing blow and the 75k medal, and I feel so awesome protecting the ball carrier. 50% damage redirect? check. 30% nerfed damage to a single target? check. 20% accuracy debuff cd? love it. some % flat damage reduction from my damage skills? boom
