Belle Hibiki Wrote:... that's probably because it's not really survival horror vOv
Yeah, there's hardly a 'horror' moment, though there are times where I can still get shocked by suddenly turning and see a halfly-standing witch staring at my witch at the toughest difficulty. The next words that usually come out of the voice com is either 'oh shit' or 'RUUUN'.

That or my cocky friend takes all the fun and shoots her in the head.

The horror in survival horror is really more about the atmosphere than the actual piss-your-pants moments, in my opinion. In that respect, Left 4 Dead does a much better job than most games that actually bill themselves as "survival horror."

That said, no, I wouldn't actually call Left 4 Dead a survival-horror game.

L4D2 is set in the south.

And the music is apparently banjo inspired.

I am a sad panda.

First of all, the banjo is awesome.

Second of all, you're always sad.

Fighting to the bitter end is an advantage when your opponent does not wish to perish.

I'm talking big-picture happy.

An hour of being temporarily sated doesn't cut the proverbial mustard. We all know he's already a cold lump of repressed sorrow on the inside.

This game looks amazing. It's called The Las Guardian. It's for PS3, from the creator of ICO and Shadow of the Colossus.

I hate you.

Now I'm spending ALL my cash and building up a debt to get a PS3 just because of that video.

(I have an XBox 360, but since PS3 seems to be getting all the cool titles, I'm also getting one, since I'd rather not lose all the cool titles for XBox 360 which I bet will come the second I plug my PS3 in.)

I just finished Star Ocean. The ending is a bit of a grind, takes about 40 minutes to beat the final boss, and then there's literally about an hour of cut-scenes. I enjoyed the game overall though.

Also I'd like to take this opportunity to state my dislike of games that entice you to carry on after you've completed the story by throwing in loads of weapons and armour, side quests and boss battles, that you can only get/do post-game. Why not just add them to the main game? Now I feel torn whether to carry on playing, even though I know the quality is gonna go down, and there's gonna be little to no story to piece things together and keep it interesting.

I think it's very clever to keep a game going after the finale.

Makes it seem like the world doesn't just stop because you killed the bad guy. Some games even do a good job of showing the world moving on afterward, but those are rare.

I guess I just prefer it when games draw a line under a story when it finishes. I like that feeling of completion.

I know I've played loads of games where you can carry on playing after the main story is over, but I can't remember ever spending any serious amount of time with a game after I've completed the story, I just don't really see the point, if I felt like playing some more I'd just start a new game. Except in games like Oblivion and Fallout 3, where the main story doesn't envelope the whole game, and the sidequests are like mini stories in themselves.
Reply
Let's be fair, though. The main story in Oblivion and Fallout 3 sucked ass.

If not for the sidequests they'd be terrible games.
