I've recently come to the conclusion that charging people to move from planet to planet is not only counterproductive, but unnecessary. What point does it serve, other than to force people from zipping around the galaxy like a madman?
First of all, if someone wants to zip around from planet to planet, that's their business. And anything short of having a thread going on each planet, and posting in each one every day, shouldn't warrant staff trying to discourage it. Some people, for character reasons, want to be on the move all the time, doing different things and enjoying a change of scenery. Spies don't have any problem traveling from country to country in any other work of fiction, why should such a constraint exist here?
If you guys can point out why there are prices at all, other than because that's how it's always been, then I will at least listen and readjust my opinion. Maybe. Probably not, but you're free to do so.
PS: This is "for me", and kinda not for me, because I've noticed that the biggest thing that keeps people from collaborating on roleplays is having to spend hard earned zeni just to GET where the other person is.
PSS: At the very least, there should be a public transportation equivalent that is dirt cheap (like 5 zeni). Or free transport with a limit on how many times per week/month you can change planets (barring sagas and such). Idk, something other than this.

It's a 'gold sink'. If you do not have things that people have to spend money on then everyone ends up with every item and huge stockpiles of money, which ruins the economy. Think repairing equipment in games or having to purchase ammo. Restocking your potions/food. It's not really as critical since it is so much harder to earn zeni now, but the point still stands.
That aside, I wouldn't be opposed to a discounted 'public transit' style system to make it easier for roleplayers to gather with some sort of cooldown/time limit. Or one ship ticket being able to be split among any number of people.

The problem with the 'economy' in this new version of Chubbs is that no one has money. Money is merit based, rather than automatic as it has been in previous versions, which i like (with the exception that zeni is being given out in such miniscule amounts). But, since people can only get money by actively RPing job quests (which aren't the most fun), people are only going to do said job quests if they're saving up for something they really, really want (which hasn't happened at all yet). This further discourages people from buying transportation because it only dampers their ability to purchase a specific set of armor, or a weapon. And no one is going to do an entire job quest just to save up and go to another planet, because it isn't necessary to change planets, it's a luxury.
Job Quests are tiresome and boring to write for most people (especially since the amount of zeni being given out for quests is tiny, someone would have to write 60-75 quality posts to purchase any substantial items), they'd rather do a personal storyline or a group adventure. By forcing people to do these things in order to travel hampers incentive to travel, bogs down RPing into boring job quest tasks, and creates inactivity (i'd be willing to bet someone is more likely to enjoy writing if their on a sweet adventure than if they're RPing a mail delivery, or something that is redundant as all job quests are).
So when people like BBJ and Cain have a saga based on Mercy, a saga which i think can bring a substantial amount of activity back to Chubbs, the price for transportation severely limits activity and hampers the potential for the entire RPG to experience more writing.
That said, i think public transportation is the way to go. Almost like a subway or a bus, call it an Airbus or something, it doesn't allow the luxury or the freedom that a private ship does, and you may have to share a seat with a horny, drunken bum, but it gets you from A to B without crippling your wallet.

Nvm, I wrote basically the same thing as Trafford, but not as well.

I completely disagree. I think Job quests are quite easy to work into personal storylines without compromising anything. I, myself, have worked Job quests into personal storylines, group role-plays, and the job quest I'm in the middle of now was worked into Juno's saga.
People are more concerned with switching Jobs every week to fit whatever post they're working on instead of just sitting down for 10 minutes and figuring out what kind of Profession would work best for what they want to do with their character. I mean, hell, we allows professions like "adventurer" and "mercenary." That means just about anything can count as a Job quest.
Despite that, I'm not opposed to lowering ship costs.

We're not that picky about Jobs. Get creative!

Not to mention, if we stop charging people from moving from planet to planet, custom techs like travel teleportation, which a few people spent 75 XP on would be redundant.
Does honesty earn respect or inspire revenge? Is it smarter to attack the strong or annihilate the weak?

Also wanted to point out that it's not even required that a quest you do is related to your job. You just earn less money.

Hardly a reason seeing as it'll only take an award of 75 xp and an edit of rosters in order for this to happen, besides depending on the change it could still be of some use although not as great as before.
Not saying the other reasons posted against BBJ aint valid but this one seems a bit void.
EDIT: I'm not familiar with this specific forum by the way, so if it's any harder than what I've just typed then pardon me, but all I can see nescessary would be a little time, the power of editting other people's posts which is forum mandatory and I suppose the XP system is basically a forum gold system editted to suit Chubbs' needs, so don't see a problem there either.

Hardly a reason for what? I don't quite understand your statement. Doesn't seem relative to mine.

I think what he was saying is that it wouldn't be hard to refund the 75xp

Also, is travel teleportation instant? Ships take two days. Not a huge difference since most people don't post more than that often anyway, but it's something being able to go back and forth at will.

severely lower ship costs, marginally increase travel times. Public transportation wouldn't be as speedy anyway. Or offer different levels, faster travel times yielding higher prices. And this wil keep Instant Teleportation relevant because it's both free and instant. rather than paying different rates for speed or travel. a two day flight time would cost alot, a five day would be dirt cheap, IT would be both free and instant. seems reasonable to me.

I like the idea of quicker travel times - higher cost/longer travel times - lower cost. It wouldn't effect those who don't RP frequently though. They'd just buy the cheaper tickets simply because it's cheaper. Sagas are the only times I'd see people buying expensive tickets due to not wanting to miss sign up deadlines.

works for me, since even when I'm "Active" I don't post more than once every few days anyway.

I don't see anything replacing travel transportation. Stuff like Raditzu and Burter fighting while bamfing from planet to planet can't be replaced. And that's mainly why we have techniques: for character reasons. If someone bought Travel Transportation to get out of having to spend zeni, then they're a stupidhead.

People who don't RP frequently don't often acquire as much money, so spending any of it still affects them.
Person A RP's actively and has collected 1000 Zeni. He buys the cheapest ticket at 100 zeni, which doesn't hurt his pocket, but he can't RP for five days. Oh noez. They might even upgrade to the 150 zeni ticket since they have a personal storyline going and want to keep the juices flowing. Way to balance out the damage to the wallet and the wait, nice work Person A.
Person B RP's every now and again and has only collected 200 zeni, poor Person B. He doesn't care how long his travel is since he doesn't RP much. But oh no! he just lost 50% of his total earnings on the cheapest ticket since, because he doesn't RP much, he can't have accumulated as much! Oh noez!
(Side Note: Prices were randomly chosen to show my point. That point being that people who don't RP alot are still affected since they won't have as much zeni.)

Just making up scenarios doesn't really prove points...

JAxx does have a point. I actively rp on some days i even write two posts or more depending on my mood. i feel that a of pace is warrented cuz after speaking with cains afewdays ago i mentiioned id be coming with him to wherever he was going and he said it could take quite a while for me to get the cash needed for travel. i mean we even could use some more items to buy to make zenni even more needed but yeah my two cents.

Personally, I think travel should be relatively easy to encourage group RP, and other cash sinks are already waiting at the shop (PP restoration items, the single use items like tracers and stasis grenades), and single-use fun items could be added, like explosive grenades and other things I'm too tired to think of now.
