I hate waking up an hour late, bewildered as to why my alarm didn't go off. Then I notice the volume knob is all the way down. PLOT TWIST: It woke me up, but my response was turning it off instead of getting up.

I agree entirely (although in this specific case I didn't mind a generic response that kept ambiguous.) If it was something I really had a severe "Oh man, that was a bad idea" opinion about, I'd likely just physically remove it entirely. This way I can just send it to someone if they want to talk about it.
