Okay. The HMod server is up and running. I discovered that due to map size the old one was creating severe CPU stress. Me and Josh started anew on a new one and it (assuming as Josh didnt tell me) fixed the lag.
I provided us with tools in "Vad's Domain" along with armor. For now lets keep the map small if we can. I need to get an editor and try to limit it.
On a side note: You can set a hearth location with /sethome and use it by doing /home.
Enjoy!

well if hmod is going to lag then run the standard server
the extra features aren't worth it if it isn't going to be responsive
I guess we'll try the new one out a bit before we decide ya?

The new one seems very laggy as well at times, when Richard and I were trying it. Also, you trolled us hard with the "Vad's Domain" door being made of iron and only openable from the inside

Lag is pretty much the same for me, with or without HMod.

I think you restarted a new map again, this time without HMOD. I don't think that's the problem, as its been exactly the same for me with or without the mod. I think your cpu or RAM may just be lower than what we might need.

There is a dig site lit up by torches right by the spawn. Go there for protection at night and for some basic starting tools and stuff.

I've gone through a ton of textures and I've settled on http://www.retributiongames.com/quandary/
Its basically regular minecraft only with seasons.

That's actually a pretty cool texture pack. I like it.

Yeah. Start down the tube of water then put a block above you and it's like an elevator.

It's easier to do from the bottom. Ladder, then up two blocks and drop water.

1/3/11 Server Plugin Update

I added Bedrock Gap Insurance, explained below.
Quote:This is a very simple plugin that exists to help with world consistency. It automagically replaces every non-bedrock block at the very bottom of the world with bedrock. This will eliminate "gaps" in the world in which players can fall through.
Additionally, the plugin can also "flatten" the bedrock layer by automagically converting any non-bottom layer of bedrock into smooth stone. This will make the upper 4 layers of bedrock now destroyable, giving you an extra 4 layers in your world to build in.
For both features, the plugin checks all of the 0th to 4th level blocks in a small, configurable area around any player (defaults to a 17x17 square). For the Bedrock Gap Insurance, it converts any non-bedrock in the 0th layer into bedrock. If you have Flat Earth enabled, it will convert the 1st through 4th layers of bedrock into smooth stone. The plugin will work with any new or existing area, since it only cares about the immediate area the player is in.
LastSeen was also suggested to me.
Quote:LastSeen is a very simple plugin. It will track the last time a player was logged into your server. Players can issue a command and see when the last time another player was logged in.
Quote:Usage
/lastseen <player> - Will display when the player was last seen on server (or that the player is currently logged in)
/lastseen hide|unhide - Will allow a player with access to the /hide command to hide and unhide from this plugin.
/lastseen status - Will show the player whether they are hidden or not.
SlowRegen was also added and the fast one was disabled. Hearth still exists.
Enjoy!

(This post was last modified: 01-03-2011, 11:10 AM by Ashe.)
I just raged about nine ways.
So this new map starts off and my friend and I intentionally go a ways away from everyone to avoid having issues where our stuff crosses into someone else's plans, or we suddenly go put a farm on top of an area someone was going to use, or we suddenly open our door to find people had giant lava waterfalls right on top of our base or something.
I log on and go about my business, going into the underground treefarm to harvest some of the wood. Partway through, I realize that the roof is rather dark, yet my watch says its day. This is pretty normal, although I'm hearing zombies everywhere. I shrug, but then clearing the leaves reveals something - Someone has either caused creeper detonations directly on our roof above our trees, exposing our base completely to mobs and not bothering to cover it back over, or they have mined our roof off to use for materials. Both without covering it back up, which explains the creeper explosion I faced when I turned to walk back into the main room of our well lit cave.
I then realized health regen wasn't on, which didn't help, although I don't mind that. It just left me at 2 hearts to go up top to see what was up. Well, my new sunroof and watch showed that it was day, so I swim through the elevator - to find three zombies at the entrance, killing me immediately.
I respawn, teleport home, and try to leave again, barely making it out, just to then die to spiders without managing to get my stuff that sunk underwater, despite me putting a ton of torches above our entrance and making it so that exact scenario of shit camping our roof wouldn't happen.
I then realize that I can't see our roof and all mobs are taking refuge on top of our exposed roofless base because someone went to the floating island foundation that I'd made intentionally a ways away over water (so as not to interfere with anyone's base, despite us thinking we are off a distance from everyone) and decided to build an extension from it, extending directly from it to right over our base at about ten times the circumferance creating a giant canopy that has now turned our roofless base into a massive mob farm that we can't actually get our stuff out from to go find a new location for a base - or even survey the area to see what the hell is going on, since there's shit on my underground door now.
I doubt it was intentional, but the list of inconveniences has just multiplied up so much that I don't even know what to say at this point. I was going to go work on the floating mob farm/new base some more, but someone's now using it - and all the gear I'd been carrying has now despawned at the bottom of the ocean, leaving me now underground in our "shelter" with two hearts, no food, and permanent darkness mode to try to get out of my roofless home with.
So I'm pretty much calling it a night. I need to sleep this one off before I rage.
EDIT: No, really. I just walked into our "tree farm" and looked and there are five spiders walking around on the canopy now trying to get down since they won't reset due to pitch permanent darkness.
Among items lost on the bottom of the ocean trying to leave my base were two diamond pickaxes, three stacks of torches, watch, flint & steel, compass, two iron swords, few other iron tools, two stacks of smelted iron, a stack of coal, a stack of sticks, stack of wood, stack of fences, and a stack of redstone.
EDIT2: I just looked again and realized another reason why its pitch black despite us having torched that area (or at least the covering of our entrance that we'd reinforced with slabs to keep from having issues) - there are no longer any torches there. At all. The area away from our entrance? Yeah, our torches are there. The area directly over our base stuff, where the random extension got built covering our base? None, all removed or something. I just... really... don't know what to say. Or how to STOP saying stuff.

Oh, no doubt. From a completely outside perspective, its god damn hilarious. I totally agree. Subjectively though, its a pain in the ass.
I really appreciate whoever got on and basically broke holes in the part directly above our base. We patched up the roof and put new torches out a moment ago but didn't have time to do much else.
I keep trying to say this, but I highly doubt it was done intentionally. I seriously don't think anyone's trying to grief or anything. I think it was just one big string of bad decisions made possibly from limited information (maybe not knowing those torches meant our house, and that the underground trees were... not just a glitch?) without really thinking about it. I'm kinda perturbed about the random decision to just take over and build on my foundation though, as its akin to me walking into someone's base and just bulldozing a wall to start my own room, regardless of what plans may have been had. But I honestly think it was just a series of unfortunate events that just somehow lead to one major grief scale "FUCK YOU" going our way, with none of the intentions of doing so.
If someone hadn't broken the platform above our roof a bit, I think I would have. It just would have taken ages as the only way I'd physically be able to get there would be to respawn at spawn point, punch down a tree for some wood to make wooden tools, and use those to walk the lighted path. Leaving my house with tools was not an option.
We'll probably just relocate soon. We found some beautiful land out in the islands, with great beach property and a lovely school system. Maybe settle down a bit, have some kids, hopefully meet some women to have said kids with (island chicks). If I do, which I'd already been considering, I'll probably just leave that foundation to whomever wants it, but not relinquishing the claim just yet. And if I do, I'll be taking my torches from it.

Man I really want to play this game now.
I'm going to buy it. If I don't like it, I'm going to be pissed.
