When you said this on Facebook, I immediately pictured the X-Men comics right before the Age of Apocalypse where the giant M'kran crystal wave (or something, it was involving a guy named Legacy or something that was Xavier's son that went back in time to kill Xavier and succeeded or something, I don't have it now but it was awesome) swept through the universe like a giant super nova, all wall shaped. They stood defiantly and just watched it as it came until the end.

I know you are being sarcastic, but for the record, not true. I'd say the majority of Christians called the guy a false prophet and pointed out repeatedly that "it says in the Bible that no man shall know the day nor hour". He's ignoring one aspect of the Bible in order to further his other point.

He ignored several. One being the above mentioned no man knows the day nor hour not even jesus christ himself knos only the father.

He says that after the earthquake those who aren't raptured will remain here for 5 months and then the world will be destroyed. The bible states that after Christ returns for those worthy, those left behind will endure 7 years of tribulation.

His third mistake was by saying theres no hope of redemption for those left behind in the rapture.

This guy is deff what we Christians consider a false prophet. Someone who comes in the name of God only to twist and warp the people for personal reasons.

Eh from some peoples points of view. I dont see it that way. But this isnt the place for that kind of discussion. But anyway..point and case for me is this guy...is responssible for some serious damage.And not only with the people who followed him but for the bad image of christianity he is giving off. Not every christian is like that but thats what people will say. Just like every muslim isnt a terrorist. I know a few muslims who are the sweetest people I have ever met in my life. They tell me my religious choice is my choice thats why they came to america to live so they could have a choice. I enjoy people who are tolerant of other peoples religious freedoms...those are good people to me.

Christianity has matured, and its rough edges have been scraped off by solid, moral development in society. Most Christians today (outside of, say, Uganda) no longer accept the Bible as a whole for moral instruction, choosing instead a set of verses more in line with society's values. The shift is usually reactive, not proactive.

In fifty (thirty? twenty?) years, only 'whack-job' Christians will condemn homosexuality as immoral.

The firm emphasis upon the end of the world, and a rapidly approaching judgment, has been fixed in Christianity ever since. It is here that it is at its most dangerous (particularly in a world where one human with access to one set of nuclear weaponry can effectively destroy the planet).

Islam, as a whole, is still extremely dangerous. It hasn't yet been neutered in the same way Christianity has. Hopefully, with general education and the empowerment of women, this can change, and Islam can become more along the lines of what Rob Bell is for Christianity.

As another of course, Christianity is still a sufficient ground for extremist terrorism, as per the death of George Tiller, and the general inability for any doctor to provide abortions in the state of Kansas or South Dakota, without serious threats upon their life (and, sometimes, a fulfillment of those threats).

Just to make sure, let's keep this topic specifically about the May 21st event, Harold Camping, what did/didn't happen, etc. Don't turn this into a generic religion thread, as that's Kame House business. Be respectful to people's beliefs as much as possible, though I think we're making an obvious exception for Harold Camping.

Speaking of, I've heard rumors that Camping has "disappeared", not as in "He was Raptured" but as in he and his family took all the money that was donated towards their church and peaced out under the disguise of being Raptured. We'll prob find out if there is anything to what is likely just someone starting a rumor or not.
