Like: I think I finally trained my family to be the FUN kind of dysfunctionsal. Me and my dad haven't gotten into a fist fight since he figured out I would win. And when my mom goes out to drink, there's nobody for her to yell at anymore! Life is great.

My parents totally hate one another and should have gotten a divorce years ago.

Even still, they manage to be far more bearable than Jarka's mother.

Anyway. Like: Jurassic Park. They had that movie on hyper repeat yesterday on AMC.

SAD: That, while I feel the effects have somewhat stood the test of time, I'm sad at how the portrayal of dinosaurs has not.

Hate: Can't get into PSU unless I take 2 semesters of a language first.

Like: At least my local community college offers Japanese. Hooray.

So I guess I have to wait to go to PSU until spring term. I'm excited to live on campus though, and I have some friends who go there.

I'd have that same trouble applying to colleges out here. Considering I gave my High School an across the board "Fuck You" to foreign languages I'd have to attend a community college.

Academic advisors/Guidance counselors/Memos regarding college routinely informed us that most universities have foreign language requirements. They encouraged us to take three years of foreign language in high school (this probably translates to three semesters at college).

That said, I took five years of Spanish (8th - 12th grade), and then had to test at the intermediate level in college to get my degree there (pass test at the end of semester of intermediate level language). So I've essentially taken close to sixth years of spanish, and the way it's taught in education systems in America renders that effort completely useless. I can't speak a lick. I can probably read it, though.

5 years of French. Spent a month in another country where it was all I spoke/heard.

Can't write/speak very much anymore, but I can still read and understand it okay. I can watch french movies without needing subtitles!

But yeah learning it was hard, and French isn't a difficult language for English speakers to learn, either.

I've heard eastern european languages rank among the most difficult.
