Considering I've been applying to various positions for the last year-and-a-half, and have only gotten part-time jobs at minimum wage so far, probably not many.

she didn't just send in a resume, she applied herself personally. she actually talked to her potential future employer. in-person meetings are a lot more effective at getting your foot in the door, while it's very easy for employers to put paper into the trash.

i suppose her proactive appearance made her stand out in that crowd, though. might be less effective if everybody was doing it.
