My only problem with Brotherhood was that it was SO streamlined it actually removed a fair few of the manga scenes that were, whilst not ABSOLUTELY necessary to the plot, were good and gave some plot development that was otherwise just thrown in later (as with Envy's skirmish with Ling). I don't mind them streamlining the episodes which the first anime already covered, but after that they didn't slow up at all.

While I agree that can easily be over looked by the fact that the original was horrible. The post stunk, the antagonists were one dimensional and lame, and I couldn't get over how preachy it got towards the end. Scar was a bitch compared to his Brotherhood counterpart although his sacrifice at the end was pretty awesome-o.

Granted I saw Brotherhood first, then the original, but I found myself completely immersed in Brotherhood while I found myself not caring to finish the show once the main antagonist showed up. It felt like the slapped it together at the 11th hour.

Yeah it's a very minor gripe. Brotherhood is probably my favourite anime, the only thing I've watched in years that I actually watched as it came out each week.

After watching how the anime of One Piece is handling the Fishman Island arc, I think I'm going to stop reading the manga. The voice actors, the music, the pacing and editing... Pretty much masterful. I switched from the anime to the manga to read ahead and see what's going on, but I didn't enjoy the manga version of Fishman island half as much as I'm enjoying the anime.

Despite that, though, for anyone thinking of picking up the series, I would recommend experiencing it in manga form up to at least the start of the Arlong Park arc. There's some stuff in the anime that isn't faithful to the manga with regards to Sanji's backstory because of Japanese cultural stuff.

[spoiler]The off-screen act of Sanji's mentor eating his own leg to make sure Sanji has all the good food when they're both stranded on a tiny island. Cannibalism, even if it's a 'heroic' act of eating oneself to save food for a child, is even more squicky to the Japanese than most cultures.[/spoiler]

Oh snap, that's awesome. [spoiler]Does he still have to cut off his own leg before that happens, or does he cut it off IN ORDER to eat it?[/spoiler] Sanji's arc was one of my favourites. The goodbye at the end was equal parts manly and hilarious.

There's also the thing where you never find out how Luffy got his scar in the anime, which is KIIINDA understandable because you don't want an entire generation of kids to be all "I wanna be like Luffy too!"

Episode 299 now. Such a good arc. Skypiea was my favourite one so far, but then I love my Dudes With Lightning.

Water 7, CP-9, and Enies Lobby make probably the second best arc in the series, IMO. It's excellent, full of moments of awesome, and doesn't forget the humanity of its characters. Usopp and Luffy's battle over the Going Merry is easily one of my favorites in the entire series; it really builds up the drama to the breaking point.

Man, and you've still got even more awesome in that arc to get to!

Then you get to experience the amazing that is Marineford after Thriller Bark and Sabody.[/spoiler]

So I've been catching up on the past 6 months of anime that I haven't had a chance to watch yet. Finished Persona 4, Last Exile 2, Shakugan no Shana 3, ZnT 4, Ano Natsu de Matteru, Moretsu Pirates, Inu and Boku, that Usagi Drop like show that I can't remember the name of and Another. Then caught up on Eureka Seven 2 and watched all of Bakemonogatari and Nisemonogatar (which were surprisingly really fucking good).

Currently catching up on Space Brothers, which is one of those curveball shows that seems weird in premise but has been almost flawlessly executed so far. Really recommend it.

Watched Jormungand recently, turned out to be pretty good. Definitely watch if you enjoyed Black Lagoon and other similar. On that note, watch Black Lagoon if you haven't.

If you haven't picked up [Sakamichi no Apollon] yet, I highly encourage you to do so. You're doing yourself a disservice by not watching it. Also Tsuritama and Hyouka. All of those series are rather "slow" just as a heads up. Jormungand is not slow at all in case Fate/Zero isn't enough action for ya.

Also, I guess I never flat out said it, but watch Rinne no Lagrange.

If that was directed at me, then yes I picked up Jormungand on your recommendation. The rest are on my "To watch" list right now. Just not sure what I'm going to watch next yet, trying to decide between about 15 shows I have downloaded and ready to watch. I'll probably just let a random number generator pick my next one.
