The Like/Hate Thread
Wired mice are a specialty product at the moment? I find that hard to believe.

Regardless, ultimately for me all the mice I would want to buy are wired anyway. They're all high tech mice, though. There's a few higher tech wireless ones but none of them interest me in the same way that the wired ones do.

For instance, wired only for the Razer Deathadder- which is what I use.

I really can't agree that wireless mice are "by all intents and purposes better than wired". They're just different, each with their own pros and cons. I personally find wired mice to be better. It's just down to personal preference or set up. I'm sure if your desk was in a different order or setup or whatever, Doe, you wouldn't find wired mice to be as difficult to use as you do.

I've hated wired mice since my first time with them way back in elementary school. Pretty much every setup with them over the course of my lifetime had the cord get in the way. I can understand if you wanted a particular model that only comes in wired form, though I think that if you give it about 4-5 years, wired mice will basically be gone from the market. Nobody uses corded phones anymore.

I'm going to drop out here, but thanks for responding, guys. Restored my faith in humanity the slightest bit.

I absolutely can't stand when my mouse dies in the middle of something (doesn't even matter what, I just lose my shit for some reason) so I use wires whenever possible. Chargers always end up losing their ability to charge and I understand how routing wires works, so I really have absolutely no reason to use a wireless mouse.

I use a wired mouse primarily for the reasons Kaden stated. I like the general feel of this mouse (though am looking for a replacement as the scroll wheel seems to not understand scrolling up anymore or to the left but right and down is fine - yes, the wheel is that four directional kind) but also don't want to deal with the hassle of it randomly dying during something. Still, I ultimately don't care, I suppose.

Yeah I've never had an issue with a mouse cord. Or if I did, I fixed it right away.

If you have any amount of space between keyboard and monitor (and you should, for posture and for your eyes) then, well, I dunno how you'd not be able to manage a cord. That's assuming you don't have stuff in that space, of course.

The only time it was an issue for me was when in elementary my teachers taught me I could switch the controls so left-handed kids like me could use it.

Except having to every single time get the mouse over the keyboard with enough cord slack to be useful and then having to change the settings and then having to do it in reverse every time I stepped away from the machine was just something that kid-me was like 'well that's stupid.'

So I just dealt with it and learned how to use it right-handed. I'm so used to it now I think I'd be very confused if I were to change it back.

But yeah that was the only time I ever had issues with the wire getting in the way, or whatever. And that was because I was trying to do something the IT people who set up the classroom never really thought I'd try to do.

I see the merit in wireless mice, especially for laptops, but I don't see them as 'better' or as a necessity in anyway, especially for a desktop.

And we really need like, a different topic than this because it's crushingly lame.

So, hey! Who's writing exams right away? Doesn't studying suck? Isn't beer instead of studying great?

Yeah I'm pretty amazed - like, it's changed my perspective that people care enough to write as much about this subject as you guys have =P

Hate: that with Chubbs dying, I have like, no home on the internet. It's kinda been my refuge from the vacuum of space that is my social life, which is a SUPER vacuum right now. I feel super displaced. And also bored. I want to launch Omniverse, but given that I'm leaving the country in two months it would be dumb.

Like: that bit. In the context of "I won't be here in two months", whatevs! I'm going stir crazy though.

I hate wires on everything.

I like Santiago. I hate my broken, terrible understanding of Spanish. People talk to me and I just panic and start talking in French, because if they can't understand English, surely they understand another foreign language.

I'd like to, in all seriousness. It might take a little bit to get it going again, but I have a place to host it at and I'm sure Reb won't mind if I take over payments for the domain name.

This. I built an internet home and now I'm internet homeless and it sucks. I really do miss it, not just for the RPing but it was like our very own highly specialized and filtered Reddit.

We had our politics/sciences/gamings/etc, but only things that at least a handful of us actually cared about, the rest was filtered out by either omission or lack of interest.

I've never been on another forum that held that kind of appeal. Maybe because like Waff said, I'm getting old, maybe because those forums were filled with people who only seem to have one interest + photography. Seriously any forum of any purpose ever has photophags all over it being all "check out my cool $3000 camera I'm-a go take some 'arty' shots with it and get internet famous yo!"

I don't care about photography. I'm glad you're inspired but please drink bleach.

IDK. I think I'd probably join in a vibrant RP atmosphere again in a heartbeat. I wouldn't have time for sagas and stuff that we had on the scale here, but a place I could pop into here and there and get my write on? I find collab writing to be way more fun than what I do alone b/c... well I don't pull all the strings. There's a feeling of surprise/expectation/suspense that you don't get writing a novel.

@Kayne: If the staff is k with you taking it over then so am I. The only thing I'd suggest is keep this system - it works - but ditch the DBZ; it's dead. The system already exists (for all intents and purposes) as its own standalone universe anyway; the DBZ part seems more and more shoehorned in.

I mean, even most of our custom characters were a deliberate step away from the source material; many of our characters don't even have any of the same abilities or atmospheres of the show/manga.

I would probably keep elements of it, but it wouldn't be so heavily based on DBZ. There are some good things to take out of it, though. Most of the planets. Probably reinstate the NPCs as trainers. I feel that the whole self-driven thing isn't working, but assigning special NPCs as places to get new techniques was working fine in the old system. It'd give writers somewhere to jump off of if they cannot do it on their own. I'd like to see more involvement with the NPCs than just have them standing there twiddling their thumbs waiting for someone to come along and use them. What's the point of having them if they have no purpose? Assigning special techniques that can only be learned through them gives them purpose, and a jumping off point.

If I did take over, I'd still love to keep everyone on staff if they wish to be, but welcome those who have ideas as a sort of "council" to help rebuild. I've kept some notes floating around both on my computer and in notebooks but none really that are ready for presentation. But I do love this place with a passion, and it kills me that it is dying for a variety of reasons ie. growing older, losing interest, moving on, etc. I feel that if we can just tweak stuff and have something to look forward to on a regular basis (like how WoW and many other games do with patches or new features) it could help give some sort of semblance of activity, and attract people back or bring in new people.

I'll be down. Can't say I'll have the free time... scratch that, the motivation to write until the summer, but I have some concepts I always thought would have be nice. If anything happens, let me know, otherwise I can revert to just perusing every now and again.

I am currently fiddling around with updating a copy of the archives I received a very long time ago to see how smooth it would be to update the forum software. Pretty easy peasy to go from this version to 4.2, and it looks a lot nicer. On the aesthetics side, I very much like the default template that 4.2 has, but I also have a backup that would be nice. Even though nothing is official, or even really started, I am still going to compose some notes to see what we can work with. One thing I think is for sure is the reinstatement of NPC-exclusive training for some of the techniques and not this free for all. I just do not think it has really worked at all since it was introduced. Also, rolling out regular updates and features. I want to at least bring something to the game at least monthly, no matter how small. Something is better than nothing.

EDIT: Josh, Waff or Mario, if either of you three want to talk about this, I would love to hear from you guys. I can send you messages or you can send me some. However you want to chat, I'm down. I am very interested in taking responsibility of this place and try my best and bringing some life back into it. Please message me or something when either of you guys are available.

As someone who cares about shit, I'd love to see you admin, and if you wanted help with any of the architectural shit (ie editing rules or whatevs) I'd be happy to lend a hand. Likesay, my main limitation at the moment is that I'm only gonna be here for another couple of months, next year I'll be Harvest Moon-ing it up in Japan and have no idea if I'll even have internet half the time.

Personal opinions aside, it's Josh's decision about taking over things. I don't really have any say in that.
