1.) First and foremost, why should you be selected to play?
For quite a while, I?ve been wanting to be able to help out more than I have been and make sure that everyone has the best experience that they can, because this place is important to all of us in some way or another. I want to take care of this place however I am allowed to. I can?t create graphics, I don?t know very much code, and I most likely wouldn?t win a popularity contest. About the best thing I can do here is write. But, I don?t think any of that stuff matters when it comes to being the right person for the job.
2.) What qualities do you possess that will make you the Idol?
3.) Tell me any previous experience you have with running an RPG. Included should be the name of the RPG, the genre, and how long it lasted.
"Dragonball Z RPG"
- Anime
- Approximately 2 years
This was my first message board RPG. The original owner, Al, appointed me staff member almost right out of the gate for about a year, and then handed it off to me after he left. The other guy, Derek, wasn?t happy with the decision, so he locked my administrative access and essentially kicked me out when it was safe to do so. The RPG is dead now. During my time as staff member, I learned some code to make it more presentable, and after Al left I revamped nearly the whole thing to make it run more smoothly. Derek took the credit for it but couldn?t keep it going.
I also run the RPG Discussion forum, but you know that.
4.) Finally, you need to write a short essay/description (200+ words) of what you feel being a staff member of Chubbs is all about. What do you think is necessary, what do you think has to be done. Be detailed, as much as you can. Don't kiss our asses, we aren?t looking for compliments.
Being a staff member is about?
Sacrifice. It?s about giving everything you have to give to each and every member of this board and expecting nothing in return. Contributing part of yourself (sometimes even all) for the greater good. To me, this is the same thing as having patience. You put aside what you would like to do in a particular instance and do what you need to do. This isn?t forcibly taken?it?s willingly given.
Ingenuity. Having a team of good police officers isn?t enough to keep an RPG afloat. It takes creativity and originality to come up with new things and regenerate interest. This can be anything from running a saga to creating a slough of techniques or items?all the bases need to be covered. When you?re given lemons, you need to make orange juice. You also have to be able to do this on your own, not just collectively or by request. A keen eye is required to see what the problem or lag is and how to fix it or pick it up. Admittedly, I am a little slow, but I am more than willing to work on it.
Knowledge. This isn?t just about knowing the ins and outs of the rules. Any member can verse themselves in those. It?s about knowing people and knowing situations and how to handle both. That means keeping your temper in check, making necessary calls and well thought out judgments, and understanding what each occurrence teaches you. A staffer needs to know when it is okay to be somebody?s buddy and when they need to be a staff member. Now, I know I?ve made some mistakes in this department, and some of what I have listed is learned from experience, but recognizing what you need to do in order to fix a mistake or problem is an asset to a staff member. Knowledge is also about being familiar with your strengths and weaknesses.
