First things first. We need to agree on the ground works - the things all of our tasks should follow. Here?s my input.

The tasks should try and be fun and interesting, but without treating the competition like just a silly game. After all, the winner of this is going to be a staff member.

The tasks should be engaging and allow room for expansion by the participants. If we set out a word count limit, for example, that?s all anyone is going to do. It should be somewhat vague, but not to the point of people not knowing what they?re supposed to do.

We also need to decide how we?re going to eliminate people. This, again, should try to be as non-biased as possible.

As for our actual writing of the tasks, since we have 5 people and only 3 tasks, we?re going to have to work on them as a group. I don?t think we should separate them up and have say, 2 people work on 1, another 2 on the next and then 1 person on the last, etc, because that kinda goes against the point of being a group.

To start off, everyone just throw out all the ideas for tasks you can think of. Even if you think it?s shit, just get it out there. Just a basic description, it doesn?t have to be complex. Once we?ve got a nice selection of ideas, we can choose our favourite 3 and then expand upon them, working them into fully-fledged tasks.

Sound good?

I don't feel we need to work on the elimination aspect of the task. It was no mentioned in our tasks. A big problem my team had in apprentice was we went to far and not only did it get confusing but we seemed to lack on the area we needed. However getting off of that I have a few ideas.

Create a saga with a specific theme: Apprentice had Wizard of Oz, we could do something else, or just a saga.

Rules page: ...blah blah blah, it has become outdated and needs revisions, you make the revisions.

Shop page: Create some new items for the RPG, A few for each planet.

A few ideas there. let me know what you guys think about them.

Following on the same kind of themes as Murasaki's ...

Revising the Technique page (coming up with new techniques and improving old ones).
Making a new planet.
Coming up with new quests.
Expanding the afterlife, or coming out with a list of quests for Supreme Kai (along with rewards and the like).

All pretty standard stuff there, apart from the Supreme Kai one ^^;

More or less that is probably a general requirement that will be set, those word count limits are designed for an approximation of what should be done. We're going to be hard asses about this considering this is for a staff position no matter how engaging the topic be or not.

Quality > Quantity

Clearly there isn't too much of a biased remark opposing the two options given. It would be easier having one person remove the contestants names from their work and judge it as such, that way they receive just as much tasteful criticism as the next.

The only thing I truly hate about that is the wide variety of what would be submitted. You can very well say one entry to have a good plot line but patheticly written while vice versa.

My opinions would be more along personal boundaries, relating more to spur-of-the-moment decisions that would require a certain finesse often observed from a moderator/SM/Admin/etc. in that position.

Reason why is that not everyone has the capability to generate ideas for items and yet may contain another very useful skill that could be a good addition.

Simply my opinions, feel free to chop up anything anyone posts and respond specifically to that.

I don't really enjoy the idea of working on eliminations. We're supposed to be working on something to go towards the task, something productive. Brining eliminations into the issue would only dampen the mood and probably wouldn't make for a very comprehensive concept.
Like it or not, eliminations are gonna have to happen in this makebelieve competition. Tongue It's not a game where everyone wins. I'm not sure what you meant by the last thing, though, about comprehensiveness. I would have thought discussing how the eliminations would work would be essential if we wanted it to be comprehensive, since they're obviously going to happen some way or another. >_> It's up to you guys, though. Like Murasaki said, we weren't asked to factor them in, but I still feel we should touch on the subject, even if it's just "3 people will be eliminated each round out of a total of 10."

Also with the planet thing - we wouldn't be creating a planet, that'd just be a task we're setting for someone else to do. Wink

An-y-way ... I agree with Goten that it'd be nice to find a task less content-based. Hell, most of the modding work is updates and the like. The problem is, it's difficult to gauge how good someone is at updating without simply making them a mod and watching them. It would definitely be good to keep one of the tasks more 'clerical' (rule pages and such), and not IC-based (making up new planets/techs etc). I'll see what I can come up with.

Came up with another task. I was specifically looking for something less IC-affecting and more to do with the dreary side of moderation which we see day-to-day.

Task
Until recently, Flubbs was a fairly small RPG, and so most rule-breaking has simply been dealt with on a case-to-case basis. As the RPG grows, however, the staff have realised that the warning system is in a dire need of an update. Your mission is to revamp the warning system, deciding how rulebreakers are dealt with and how severe their punishments are (depending on the offense). Make sure to have specific criteria laid out for each offense (what counts as a flame, etc).

Feel free to pick these apart. Just throwing them out as they come to mind.

Task

As the RPG grows bigger it must expand. From the Shop page, to the techniques to accommodate the new power houses, and even the planets. this is your task for this round. Each team will create a planet. Upon this planet you will need; a name, a travel time, at least 3 special people that live upon this planet, and a few new shop items that will be available upon this planet only. There should also be one stipulation around this planet. That stipulation can be anything from a Tp increase due to gravity to a determination level requirement to even step foot upon the planet, just make it make sense.

Let me know what you guys think, if you like we can work on fleshing it out a little bit more.

SB I loved the warning idea, it would be a great task.

GJ: I like the idea but its just something I don't think would be that great of a task...who knows though, it might got over really well.

Task

You and your fellow role playing staff team have gathered the dragonballs and wished for a brand spanking new planet! Within all the fuss of the final depending factors you were nominated to the challenge of filling said additional world with a name as well as a detailed description of its geography, native race, and background information.

A few days in and already there's talk through the forums of a few high leveled members planning a hostile take over of your newly created haven. Luck be to you that there's time enough to generate a saga in which an introduction for protectors of the planet can be done in; careful though... throwing a half assed collection of power houses with no true backgrounds as saviors could cause a controversy amongst your members about how fair you run your site.

Made this with the thought of those you would be serving in mind, creating an image for yourself over the members on how well you think things through and if it's a last minute deal compaired to a well thought out piece of work. Might be a little long for a single task though as it combinds the planet idea with the saga.

That was going to be my only complaint with it Got. Its asking two things of the teams when really one task should be one task, not two in one. Other then that I really like it. I think we should get an AIM chat going though, like you said, to brainstorm.

Definate this weekend we can get the AIM rolling, think it best for everyone around then anyway.

I would break the tasks up according to rank, such as one task for Moderator, one for Super mod, one for Admin, you see? Something that will accomadate to their group level.

Moderator

Tasks

1. We need new quests. Your task is to create a new quest for each planet, along with requirements, rewards, etc. The twist, is to create quests that will link together somehow, so the player can choose one, and go on sort of a tour of the Flubbs universe, and link all these quests together. If all quests are completed by the same player(s), there should be a bonus. Come up with a suitable bonus.

2. Initiation

Moderator initiation should include a summary of what they hope to accomplish during thier tenor as mod. Your job is to make a list of what a moderator does, such as responsibilities, and what area you are good at, so that you can be assigned accordingly. Are you good at organizing rosters, or scouting the join forum? Are you best suited to help people with their roleplaying, or are you one of those people that like to patrol for activities that break the rules?

3. Organizing your first saga

Your task is to organize a saga, from start to finish, including what rewards will be handed out. Make an outline of your saga, a timeline of what will happen once certain requirements are met, and how you plan to run it. Will you need a separate forum? How will it be organized?

~*~ anyone wish to add to this, or how does it sound?

Any concrete times on that yet? I think at the moment we've got plenty of individual ideas, we just need to get together and have some brainstorming and make some decisions as to what we're using.

I'll be appearing and disappearing at random times over the weekend, probably in three hour blocks or so. Forgot that I need to gut my room today or tomorrow which shouldn't take too long I hope.

Violet, love the listed ideas actually. All three look like they could work very well.

Well, the weekend passed and there was no group chat organised, so I guess we should just start pulling it together and choosing our favourite tasks. Personally I think more ideas would be helpful.

So far, my favourite is Murasaki's.

Myself, I really liked Supps task with updating the warning system. That seems like a winner right there. Either way lets get started on the final product...sometime soon.

Task

As Flubbs kicks to a start, joinees are crawling the page rabidly feeding on all the information they can find in order to join. As the guests wander the site, they realize they have all the information they need. The chosen character, the history, and in what faction they're going to push their character in. Things are looking good, but the guest has one last thing to find out. What is Flubbs as a community? What do they aim to acheive? How are they there to make your roleplaying experience that much better? Create a 200 word summary of Flubbs and it's overall aims, goals, dreams and ambitions.
