Not speaking as a staff member here, just as a preface.

But couldn't all of that be done as threads in the Kame House, given that its a forum where we have to expect a certain level of maturity in our discussions and the actual topics are sometimes a bit "touchy" for public access?

Kame House is sorely underused. There's only a few people that actually frequent it. Not only that, but there are a number of people under the age of 18 that are mature enough to handle such discussion. In some ways, the Kame House is too restrictive; in others, not enough.
