The main reason we get cancer more often now than we used to is actually remarkably simple. We get older. It gives our cells more time to make cumulative mistakes. Remember, a cancer cell is (in part) just a normal cell that forgot how to die/stop reproducing.
Nah genetics are pretty predominate when it comes to cancer, my family is a depressing example of that both my uncles, and my aunts, and my grandma are chain smokers and have been pretty much all their life 3 decades worth in fact and no problem with cancer.
