I always read reviews because I usually have to make a choice of one game out of several I want. But I tend to look for WHY they liked or disliked a game, rather than the outcome itself. For example, if a reviewer knocked a game because it has a bad story, or says it's the best game of all time because of it's story, I won't pay much attention. (I've seen so many bad games forgiven of all their sins because the reviewer was mostly playing for the story and not the game itself - which is fine, but make it clear) Not to say I don't enjoy a good story, it just doesn't factor in very much when I'm buying games.
Most reviewers are also pretty harsh on games if they're too short - to me, length is irrelevant to how fun the game is when you're playing it. Or if a game is too easy - that doesn't always bother me, as long as it's still fun. Those are all pretty common reviewer complaints that I don't take to heart.
