Family Guy still has its moments, but it's depressing watching the earlier seasons. There's a tonal shift towards the outrageous that began after the show came back from cancellation. FG was off-the-wall before that, of course, but it still had a heart.
After coming back? Pft. They basically take shit ideas, tack a lot of pop culture reference cutaways into the mix, and try to be as offensive as possible, often without any real message. This has gotten more and more pronounced with every passing season.
The rare episode that focuses in on Brian's relationships were/are some of my favorites, mainly because they're done so well. It's sad, because while they prove that the show can be dramatic and poignant while still being fun and wacky, they're the total exception to the rule because the writers take the easy way out.
