“No day is a good day to die, you idiot!” Juno screamed over the ruckus Ares was making. He and Sophia ducked down on the porch of the saloon, watching as Ares waited for whatever was coming. Juno surmised that keeping company with this boy probably wasn’t exactly the best idea for their safety right now, and decided it was time to take action. “Come on, Sophia!” he beckoned to his companion, grabbing her arm and dragging her inside the saloon.
The pair rushed through the building, passing the dead man without even taking note of him. Right now, adrenaline was governing their actions, which meant that nothing but their objective—get to safety—was flashing through their brains right now. Bursting out the back door, the hybrid and the blonde broke into a sprint, hearing the new sounds of ki rifles dislodge their shots in the distance.
Through alleys and streets they ran, soon escaping the sounds of gunshots that consistently reminded them of the companions that they had abandoned. Juno thought back on it—Ares, he could care less for, but Zena hadn’t been an idiot. She didn’t deserve what Ares had brought her. He stopped, and looked back, prompting Sophia to do the same. He couldn’t believe that for once, it had been him to think of others before she had; she grabbed his arm. “What’s wrong?”
Juno deliberated for a split second—the Saiyan princess was strong, and could probably handle herself, but could he really abandon her like that? Deciding that for now the selfish path was the way to turn, he replied: “Uh, nothing… it’s nothing. Let’s keep moving.” With that, they turned to run once more, weaving in and out through the streets.
At last activity seemed to dawn once more upon them. In the distance, Juno heard gunshots, and screams of the people who obviously were hit by those shots. Juno grabbed Sophia—who was currently ahead of him—and pulled her behind a wall, listening for something; anything. There was a crash, and then some muffled speaking—and then two more gunshots, and the sounds of an armored woman collapsing.
Juno’s mind sparked—could there be more people here? Sage or Wizard perhaps? Even Tempo would be a welcome sight. He turned the corner, briefly watching as a tall, blonde man stood over a redhead who cradled in her arms a female soldier. Confused, Juno stepped further towards them—why was the woman crying? There was no reason to care for this woman. She was a soldier of this game; her life had been condemned when she had enlisted in whatever arm recruited for it.
“What’s going on?” he asked, and the attention of the two looked up to him. Sophia had just exited from the corner, her eyes still adjusting to the blurriness caused by the bright sun on the wide street. The blonde man ahead, however, seemed to recognize her—upon seeing her, he squinted. Piper looked to him, noticing his recognition.
“Sophia?”
