Zena felt as if she was trapped in a gun scene from a crime movie, with both sides firing at one another. The only difference was that her weapon was a source from her own energy and the advantages of ki orbs were that they did not require brief periods of time outs in order to reload, and they were more powerful than bullets. She would have to get used to firearms if she hoped to become a successful assassin. Assassin, she realised with a frown. It was a hired gunman who had killed Zasha. The death of someone valuable to her, close to her, was enough to make her re-examine her new profession. Right now, even though her conscience was screaming ‘fuck assassins!’ she had to see what Aztec Corps were really about, specifically, the kind of people they went after. Eliminating criminals would not be a problem for her, but innocent figureheads for example, people who have no part business in corruption, she would never resort to terminating them.
Zena, inside a broken down store, thanks to the hunter Ares, crouched behind a candy stand. Candy, she realised and before she knew it, she was scanning the sweets, even while bullets flew into the broken windows and through the area, which used to be the entrance door of the grocery store. Her reluctance to retaliate right now was a testament to how much she loved candy. Her blue eyes caught sight of a range of magnificence, her favourite sweets, and every flavour of skittles. She reached for the best among them, her hand grasping onto five tropical flavour packets, one managing to unfortunately drop to the floor.
“We’re moving in,” she heard from the voice of one of Kai’s small fish, outside.
“Oh know you’re not,” she said quietly. The hybrid, who was used to a lavish lifestyle, had remarkably survived so long on filthy bread and water, and now that she had finally found luxury in candy, she was not about to let anyone deprive her of it, not when she could almost ‘taste the rainbow’.
The sound of explosions elsewhere hopefully meant that the boys, Ares and Juno were busy taking care of soldiers elsewhere, while the innocent looking, ‘miss butter wouldn’t melt’ Sophia, was probably hiding somewhere behind Juno. While many of the people on the island Zena had come across had proved to be useful, Sophia, who ironically had great abilities, hardly had anything to contribute in the battle against Kai’s minions. Even with her healing power, the damn, incompetent woman had failed to do a simple job in order to save Zasha.
The shuffling of feet, which grew ever so louder as they got nearer, caused the princess to act quickly, shoving the four packets of skittles, as well as some original and sour flavour skittles into her rucksack, before placing the bag against her back once more. She grabbed a hold of three more tropical packets from the shelf. “I’m sorry,” she said to them before teleporting a little to her right and then throwing the packets into the air, far over the stand. That should do it, she was sure, before boldly teleporting from behind the stand.
It had worked; they had all fallen for her diversion. During the instantaneous moment she had taken to teleport from behind the stand, their eyes were fixed on the packets of skittles scattered across the floor in front of them. By the time they had spun around, two ki orbs rested in her palms. “Bon appetite,” she said, launching the orb in her left hand towards the nearest soldier’s midsection. It managed to rip its way through his torso and travel towards the others. The good news was that the one attack had taken them all out like a bowling ball completing a strike. The bad news was that she had been too close for comfort and as a result of being too close to the explosion, which had occurred; she was sent backwards across the shops floor in a careened motion. Despite this, she displayed impressive agility, launching the ki orb, which had been patiently yearning to be released, into the eastern wall of the shop. It tore a large hole through it and at the same time, providing a rugged passageway for the young woman’s body to exit. Her back bled from a lot of grazes and although her body bled in new places, her injuries were not severe. Gazing from an upside down position, she managed to catch sight of Ares, who was still concealed behind a horse carriage, which had taken a lot of abuse from bullets. During the short time Zena had spent observing her surroundings; she saw no sign of Juno and Sophia.
“Move it!” Ares yelled to her from a few yards away, fearing the worst for the girl in her vulnerable state. “I’ll cover you.”
Of course she did not plan on remaining on the ground, not when she had finally decided how Kai would perish. Thanks to the vile inspiration she had received from Ares disfiguring a soldier back in the cave earlier, she confirmed that she would upstage him by literally ripping Kai Demolic’s heart out of his chest. Zena had to accomplish that before she could think about dying. Thinking about his death brought her back 7 years into the past, when she had justifiably killed someone for the first time.
Shutting the past out, she quickly picked herself off of her feet, running towards the carriage as fast as she could, moving to the pace of the sounds of metal projectiles, skimming past her and then colliding with the concrete and through the windows and walls of broken buildings nearby. As much as Zena would have adored destroying every last sons of bitches who worked for Kai, realistically, she knew it would be virtually impossible to pull off. “What on earth is a horse carriage doing here?” she wondered, launching a ki orb over from her position.
"Don't ask me," he replied.
I woudn't put anything past that whack job, she thought, refering to Kai.
Zena could not help but grow with concern as more bullets entered the carriage, causing it to rock backwards. This caused her to creep away from it.
“Where are you going?” Ares asked.
“To find a safer shelter before I end up eating bullets. You’d be none the wiser to do the same,” she finished. It was an insult and at the same time, advice. He had covered her during her sprint to the shelter, so now she considered them even.
