X is just amazing. The entire game is like an artistic orgasm. It's got such an indescribable feel to it that you can't explain but just have to experience. X-2 as a stand alone game is probably very playable, but as a direct sequel to X I just couldn't handle the drastic change in atmosphere and stopped playing after a few hours.
VII is sorta like the granddaddy of them all to me. Maybe the quality doesn't stand up over time to some, but I think it's still solid across all fronts. The nostalgia is the game's biggest selling point though, if you didn't play it at the time it came out your missing a huge part of this games appeal. It's still a great game today, but for the mid/late 90's it was THE game!
