The thing that bugged me about Assassin's Creed was that, yes, it was repetitive if you wanted to really dig in. I didn't mind so much the climbs to the lookout points, though I think they could have been much more interesting. It's the stupid minigames that really got on my nerves after a while. When you've pickpocketed like 12 of these exact same scenarios in a row, the need for you to do them to unlock the 'clues' about the mission or unlocking the actual assassination seemed excessively bureaucratic.

I liked the combat system, but only so much. When I realized that guards were obscenely easy to read and that I could kill practically everyone with a single counter, it became extremely common for me to herd up a group of 25 guards and take them all out without taking a single scratch of damage. There was also the extremely stupid fact that you could be obscenely deadly out of your combat stance in combat. Grab enemy. Shove him backward. Run forward to avoid the swords coming at your back, and "stealth kill" the guy who just fell on his ass. Repeat for every single guard. Win game.

(The free-running in that game, however, was amazing. There was nothing quite like running from the guards (when I got bored of killing), leaping onto the rooftops, and chaining leaps across five separate blocks, jumping from post to post, etc. High intensity, kinetic experience. Loved it.)
