I just watched through the first X-Men again today, and okay. That was pretty good.
But man, I forgot about the whole Rogue/Wolverine thing. I mean, I was aware of it, but I'd kind of forgotten how much was there, and looking back, I'm really surprised with the direction they ended up going.
Because what? She gives up her powers to let some douchebag (Iceman?) dick her at the end of the third film. Personally, I always thought was a really strange message to send to young women. Given that "you have to decide who you are" was, I think, almost literally said word-for-word to Rogue a few times during the movie, it's kind of a 'buh?' moment when she decides to give up being a hero. For dickings. By some jealous, whiny cunt who's always getting in Logan's face just because he wants the forbidden vajayjay.
When people say that Twilight was sexist in a similar vein, it really makes me not want to see/read it, because the ending to X-3 just left a bad, bad taste in my mouth with regard to that little subplot.
