That's what happens when everyone in the game goes all out defense and let's everyone else build entirely unimpeded. If those types of people were railed into while having nothing but troops, that'd be over for them.

We put all of our starting money into defense items first (everyone did), Josh and I specifically picked Nameks for their high defense bonus, and the turns being spent on troops buffed defense even more. Plus, we started abusing the game dynamics (legally, I assume you) to give us yet more edges. If anyone had attacked us it would have been a wasted effort that set the attacker back more than the defender. It might be a simple game, but there's more to it than you give it credit for, especially with team play. Or do you think Josh is #1 simply by luck of the draw? ;]

I can't stress enough how useless that is when everyone is 1/5th of his size. But cool story, bro.

Josh might not be fighting, but he's growing at such an absurd rate that nobody will ever be able to threaten him again. Plus, for the rest of us high-end Nameks there's battles to be had, and with more pressure: we're actively trying to grow while engaging in combat on the fly. It's like Clash of the Titans.

But hey, if you enjoy it down there it's no skin off my back. Actually, it makes my job that much easier.

One thing that really upsets me is that the spies aren't more like Utopia. They should be an alternate battlefield. ALL they can do is gather intel, when they should be able to sabotage or espionage someone. Frustrating.

It's just different is all. iirc, in Utopia it was much easier to observe another player's battle strength. Now, spies practically have to find out an opponent's combat readiness to prevent waste of turns and troops, and stockpiling spies can prevent opponents from discovering the information they need. Plus, you have to manage your turns between training and income to still find the energy for a spy mission, which makes it more intense than having separate spy/army operations. It's not the greatest imperial simulator but it does okay for itself.
