The normal lightning takes no energy so you can just go crazy on most poles/trash cans/fences/corpses and then drain the energy you just put in. It's what I did for most of the game.

I did that a few times, but with the energy drain off of the good guy lightning bolt and the energy drain upgrades for grinding and using your shield, it very quickly became not worth it. Still a very handy trick, though.

I'm playing as a bad guy my first time through. So far I've had to be a massive dick and red lighting is awesome.

I actually look forward to be being a raging asshole. Most of the support cast deserves it (admittedly, they are living in a post-apocalyptic city being ravaged by plague while the rest of the world lawlz at them).

That actually segues me into another point. I was very pleased with Cole as a character. He seems very grounded, and very realistic . Even when making all the good choices to be the ultimate good guy, he doesn't turn into some naive, wide-eyed comic book idiot.
