That's kind of the point. Not only does it leave room for flexibility in stat concepts, but you can justify almost any kind of character concept as well. A guy with the Superstats of Dex and Intelligence, for example, could say he does more raw damage in melee because he is adept at finding weak points in his opponent's armor and cutting into delicate anatomy. A person with the Superstat of Con might do more damage because their body has more mass (and consequently more momentum), or maybe their power is based around "burning" bodily resources to fuel its superheroic feats.
