Except that he was arguing that if you pushed a bunch of air against something, you could redirect the sound. Which doesn't make a whole lot of sense.
Wind can blunt how slow a sound wave travels (not literally, but we'll just say as much for the sake of argument), but to muffle it entirely? Even if it was possible, it would take an insane amount of air speed, so much that it would probably make as much noise as if you were in a wind tunnel, if not more. Sound travels at 760 mph.
A completely airless space around the alarm however, would work. The vibrations of the object would not have any air to latch on to.
