You fucking rock. That's it! I read the Black Blood book. OMG <3

I have one or both of the three book volumes in my attic still and have been considering trying to read them again sometime, despite needing to hit the SoIaF series and others, to give myself a bit of a change from Fantasy to kick the blah.

And yeah, at some point I think she had a kid or something in it but can't remember. It was pretty crazy in story but was actually well told (from my teenage perspective) without being too over the top or anything.

I think at some point a guy was talking to her and was like "So you are a vampire? Does that mean that stakes to the heart or holy water or crap will work on you?" and she was like "I'm pretty sure that if you put a stake through ANYONE'S heart they'll die. I'm not dead, I just have a different body chemistry."
