Well, I can't say what caused the old guy to mention the shoe shine thing. Without seeing what happened before it, really. To me, as much as people think I wouldn't say this, I think the old guy seemed to be instigating shit (this is without knowing if the shoe shine comments were legit or just harassment though). In a way, it seems like he could have been baiting the other guy. However, on that same note, he's the one that kept asking why the other guy was so hostile (though again, that could have been a "LOL U MAD?" type thing) and then got up and moved to the front away from the situation. On the other hand, the black dude made the first physical contact (whether it was a small painless intrusion of space or a full fist is irrelevant compared to the perceived attempt at a swing), which crossed the line by too far.
But really? The black dude makes the first physical contact, actually walking up to the front of the bus to do so, twice, and the first thing the girl with the camera says is that they should press charges on the OTHER GUY?
So much fault in everyone on that bus. There's only one person that wasn't instigating in some form or another and she was wearing headphones. Though what's weird is she was so calm that she looked like she'd seen this every day of her life, completely unphased.
EDIT: I actually take some of that back. The girl screaming "kick dat nigga's white ass!" holding the camera was pretty obviously with the guy that was in the fight. As soon as it starts, the old guy is responding to something the black girl says and then looks at the black dude asking him how much for the shoe shine, and the black dude has that "I set you up" look with "What are you talking about?" the moment he camera is on. So appears to me like they were trying to start shit, had the black dude make the offer or similar to the white guy, then start filming with the camera as the white dude responds, with the black dude doing a complete 180 like "what are you talking about, man you racist!"
I'd say the fact that the camera is even there being filmed says something suspicious, so either they were trying to film the "tough hard motherfucker" picking a fight to show "he aint skerd" to fight someone "weaker than himself" or to show "white people racist".
