“You have some sick obsession with pirates, you know that?” Lance leaned back in his seat, eyeing Keith suspiciously. “In fact, the first thing you ever told me was a pirate joke.”
“What else would a one-legged woman be called?” Gamer rolled his eyes. “Arrrlene is comedy gold, and you know it.”
“How’s the girlfriend, by the way?”
“…shut up,” Keith mumbled.
The Naval Battle was something that Keith had been nervous about, as there were so many different variables to be concerned about. For instance, the pirate crews themselves: pirates were, by nature, extremely volatile, and a mutiny or sheer drunken randomness could have killed the participants far more quickly than Gamer had wanted. That was why, he supposed, he dressed them like pirates in the first place—they had a sort of unspoken respect for other pirates, and although they likely weren’t cut out to serve on a vessel, they were skilled enough to make it look like they were. To add to the danger, there was something else…
“Oh sweet mother of fuck,” Baller raised his eyebrows in shock. “How long did that take to code.”
The Kraken.
Eventually, it became apparent that the ships no longer had any interest in fighting each other in the shadow of such a monstrous beast. It had completely rocked one of the ships, and miraculously, the reptilian known as Alura had survived when her other digitalized pirate friends had been slaughtered by the massive tentacle as it swept across the deck. Part of it broke off, and suddenly, she was sliding towards the gaping maw of the beast itself, despite the constant screaming of Juno. If it weren’t for some quick acting by the blue pirate herself, Alura would have been eaten for sure—a rope had been torn from its previous position, and swung down past her head. Grabbing a tight hold of it, she swung herself towards a more steady part of the ship. It was a temporary solution, however, as the boat began to take on water.
“Damn, that things rockin’ it,” Trafford said. He turned towards Belle, who had scrambled to his side during the Kraken attack on the other vessel. “Hey, if you have any bright ideas, now would be a…good…time…”
He trailed off as he examined Belle’s countenance. Hibiki frowned. “What are you looking at?”
Trafford took a step backwards. The Saiyan fighter, already decked out in pirate gear, had propped a leg up on a barrel and leaned against his heightened knee as he contemplated their position. Alexander hid a smile. “What are you now, Captain Morgan?”
“But…my name is Belle,” he seemed confused. Trafford likely would have responded with something else, but the Kraken had turned its attention on their boat. A limb rapped against the side of the boat and nearly pushed it on its side. Both makeshift pirates stumbled as they quickly tried to regain their balance, finally being able to do so by clutching onto the railing.
Trafford shook his head as the temporary partners exchanged glances. “We need to handle this thing now.”
There was one cannon left untouched, and it was a straight sprint away. It was almost a mirror image on the other ship, where Alura and Juno darted towards their own remaining cannon to fire upon the creature in a last-ditch effort to survive. In fact, from Gamer’s perspective, both cannons were loaded simultaneously, and when they were fired, the rich teenager couldn’t tell much difference in the time the cannonballs were released. All he knew was that, in the end, the Kraken ended up exploding into several pieces, the storm that resumed seemed like nothing compared to the void the creature left behind.
“Now that…was unexpected,” Lance said, his expression nearly matching those of the Kill Town pirates. “We’re going to have to clean up some of the coding, it looks like.”
“Yeah, pretty much,” Gamer waved off the criticism. “Well, that’s it for now. Get back in the game. I’ll make another announcement when I’m ready to go on.”
