The thing is with exercise is that it tends to work on diminishing returns, just because there's a limit on how fast your body can rebuild. People tend to get the idea, like Carter said, that to make a big difference you need to put in hours a day. Back when I was completely untrained, I saw significant improvement doing just 20 minutes a day. You'll make more progress on an hour a day, sure, but if you've got less time then just work hard on compound movements that hit your whole body, or something else that's time-efficient (like high-intensity interval running, as opposed to an hour long run at low intensity). The more time you put in, the better you'll be overall, but the less investment you get for your return in terms of 'efficiency'. This is just good news if you want to have a life besides exercise. =P
