There she lay. Fragile and so close to death. The medical staff on hand had done their best to patch her up, but in her present condition it was only a matter of time before she died. As Vad sat next to Beatrix's bedside, he took hold of her hand. Pressing it to his cheek a fresh stream of tears rolled down his grime covered face, streaking the blood and dirt that covered him.
"Trixie. You can't die...I love you." He whispered.
It couldn't be happening. They had been through so many close calls in the past. She had regained consciousness enough to transfer herself to his mind. No. He couldn't bear it any longer. Gripping her sheets Vad stood up hunched over her body, his eyes clenched shut; tears were falling onto her bed sheets. One of the nurses stood in the doorway waiting for Vad to collect himself before completing her rounds. The saiyan, his wife, and the man named Prototype were the ones to thank for designing and putting forth the defense procedure that was keeping everyone safe for the time being.
A group of soldiers that had fought briefly with Vad outside of the walls stopped on their way by and approached the nurse.
"Is she going to make it?" One of them asked.
Turning to the group the nurse broke down into tears. One of the men wrapped and arm around her. Just when things looked bleak he heard a faint whisper. Vad's eyes shot open. Noticing the shocked looks on his fellow comrades he looked down to see the hospital bed now empty.
"Love you too." Mistress Zulenka whispered into his mind.
She had regained consciousness for just a brief second. Such was enough for her to transfer herself back into her husband's mind and among his soul where she belonged. Dropping to his knees with relief, but most from exhaustion Vad rested his head in the sheets of the now empty bed and fell into a well deserved sleep.

Fighting to the bitter end is an advantage when your opponent does not wish to perish.
