Yeah we only have a 1 in 4 chance of getting a mafia. The absolute best odds we'll ever have of guessing right will be 1 in 2, which really isn't that much better. I agree about getting information, but if there's not risk of death, a smart mafioso or even townsperson will just keep his or her mouth shut to reduce their viability as a target. We have to stir the pot to make people talk. I don't care if we don't lynch anyone. I just don't want anyone to think they're safe. A person who thinks themselves safe is less likely to make a mistake we can exploit.
