A major advantage was that everyone in the town had a power that they could reveal for some credibility, and the mafia powers were pretty mafiaesque.

Even then, a lot of that can be chalked up to luck or poor judgement. The only reason you could reveal for credibility was because you got a mafia on the first shot. If you hadn't, then revealing yourself probably would have gotten you lynched. Regardless, the town was being given free information no matter how the powers ended up being used.

Singed coming out and saying he was Singed while people were already talking about how that's a mafia-like power and that Singed was evil in-game so he's probably mafia was just an incredibly poor play.

That actually segues into something I forgot to put in my last post. The single thing I disliked most about this was that the logic of "well he was evil in-game so he's probably mafia" held up way too well. At one point someone justified not lynching Jarka by saying "Lee Sin doesn't seem like a character that would be mafia" and I just hit my desk with my head. That train of thought should never be applicable in a game like this.
