What was the last Nintendo console that actually failed? Virtualboy?
Everyone likes to give the Wii shit for not having the most modern tech and a gimmicky control system, but it's also true that the Wii made metric asstons of money. It wasn't just because it sold a massive number of units; in a rarity, the console itself was sold at a profit. And, even though Nintendo can guarantee best-sellers on almost all its first-party titles based on nostalgia factor alone, it still makes quality games.
