Power Differences Between Our Characters vs Old Characters

I don't understand the X-men relation. Most of the famous ones are over the top and can destroy a city in their own right, so why use them? Why not just say the fighters on this forum are on par with Sailormoon? It's prob just as accurate, if not more.
