Make sure you only take last hits your AD carry is not going for, and go all out and farm the hell out of everything if you AD carry ever goes back. The worst thing you can do, even if you do need some farm, is to directly take last hits from your carry. That's just frustrating and you end up having two half farmed people which is just not a good result period. If you carry is going for that melee minion over there, hover around and get that caster minion at the back there, but never go after the same minion.
And damn it never use your stupid AOE to farm and push up the bloody lane as well as completely ruin your range AD's last hit timings. Ugh.
Anz, I know how to lane as a support. I know that, for pure supports like Soraka and Sona, their partner gets preference to last hits, aside from the times when the lane should be pushed, then last hits don't matter. However, once you're out of the laning phase, supports have just as much of a right to grab a creep wave, especially when they say, "I need x more gold for my <item>, which will help our team <how>." Since you are really only relying on a gp5 or two for cash, the occasional creep wave is needed.
In addition, there are some support champs that absolutely need farm to be effective. Taking CV on Orianna or Nidalee does not mean she can be effective without items. In these cases, I find it totally justified to compete for last hits.
