From what I understand, yea, used games are a big deal over here in the States. Gamestop is probably the largest (but not only) contributor to the problem.
Anyway, yea, it's a good business strategy. The people protesting or boycotting are either A) not enough numbers to matter in the long run or B ) going to break down and buy it anyway.
It's not a nice strategy. It's actually very cheap and exploitive. But it's going to pay off for them. People will spend their nickels and dimes on everything available to them and EA will profit greatly. It's not nice, but it's smart.
