These are pretty cool animoose, I suppose
After watching how the anime of One Piece is handling the Fishman Island arc, I think I'm going to stop reading the manga. The voice actors, the music, the pacing and editing... Pretty much masterful. I switched from the anime to the manga to read ahead and see what's going on, but I didn't enjoy the manga version of Fishman island half as much as I'm enjoying the anime.

Despite that, though, for anyone thinking of picking up the series, I would recommend experiencing it in manga form up to at least the start of the Arlong Park arc. There's some stuff in the anime that isn't faithful to the manga with regards to Sanji's backstory because of Japanese cultural stuff.
The off-screen act of Sanji's mentor eating his own leg to make sure Sanji has all the good food when they're both stranded on a tiny island. Cannibalism, even if it's a 'heroic' act of eating oneself to save food for a child, is even more squicky to the Japanese than most cultures.
