I was actually pretty meh about the Hobbit. Decent, but nowhere close to the same level as the originals, IMO. Didn't seem to be edited very well, some pointless scenes, and bizarre choices to use CGI where it wasn't appropriate (see: everything about the pale orc). Some of the action itself got excessively cartoonish. There were at least two points that were supposed to be dramatic, where the ridiculousness of what was happening snapped my suspension of disbelief in half and sapped all tension from the scenes.
All in all, very weird that I even have to complain about CGI and stuff like that, as Jackson's original movies were very dark, grim and gritty feeling. The CGI that they used in those movies was mostly used to supplement shots or to do ones that were impossible in practical terms. Not sure why they didn't stick to that.
