Not to sound sexist, at all, but just by taking a guess, most first person novels are usually read by females, whereas third person novlels are more towards male, or both genders(Mostlikely this one). This is a guess on my own part of how statistics roll.

Also you have to factor in age, the percentage of readers by sex and so much other things as well as what you are writing.

I'm assuming that thats what publishers do...

SO it's kind of like saying what the others have said, but in a different way...
