Actually, Sega Master System had some of my favorite games. Phantasy Star, anyone?
There was also this little top-down airplane shooter that I really liked, but I don't remeber the name of it.
And who could forget the original Double-Dragon? On the last level, if do a spin kick 50 times, then jump down the first pit you come across, you'll be invincible when you reswapn. Oh man... how much do I rock?
