Warriors were on the move. It had not taken long for more powerful fighters to enter Area D. What was once considered a safe place was no longer sanctuary. Bardock had figured if he laid low in one of the starting areas, everyone would move on to the farthermost points and he could pick off the weaker ones who stayed behind. Unfortunately for him, his plan wasn?t working. Not only had he wasted most of the day standing idly by, the balance of supremacy in the scope was no longer in his favor. It never was, but even more overwhelming energies were crowding the sultry flats.
The Saiya-jin wiped a thick sheen of sweat from his brow. The bloodstained bandana he kept tied around his forehead was soaked to the last thread with perspiration. His surrounding environment was reminiscent of Hell, a place he did not intend to go back to lightly. At the very thought, a strange weakness overcame him. Bardock?s mouth went cotton dry, and the effects his lack of replenishing fluids in the sweltering environment were having seemed tenfold. Deep, ragged breaths escaped his lips as he fell to his knees. Terrible memories flooded his mind that he had sought so hard to suppress: his stay on Earth, the strange child, his death, and the misery and emptiness that consumed him in the lower dimension. Bardock howled in frustration and shook his head, sending beads of liquid exudation everywhere. Focus. Get back in the game. Precious time had already been thrown away. He was not that man anymore. Not anymore. A hand clapped over his face, wiping the salty liquid away.
?Damn waste of time. I?ve got to get moving before I?m eliminated?or I?ve just thrown away my second shot at life for nothing,? he told himself. The ground on which he stood seemed to steam in its agreement. His breathing did not ease. He had to get out of here. This place was starting to affect his mind. Bardock stood up.
Harsh winds suddenly blew past, bringing with it a torrent of sand and dust. Bardock brought up an arm to shield his eyes from the disturbing granules of earth. His sharp Saiyan senses detected the sound of boots scraping against rock. Someone was coming. At last he?d been found. It was a wonder why no one had come for him sooner. But who was this? Robbed of clear sight, the black-haired bruiser was forced to rely on his other senses. His mind threw out a metaphysical net, scrying for a body of Ki. Directly in his path was an obscure figure marching towards him. Judging by the resonance of the footsteps, the stranger was of medium build and weight. The seconds in between each crunch of dirt was paced, deliberate, moderate speed. Whoever it was did not make any secrets about their approach. Bardock assumed it was some kind of hominal biped, ruling out any hostile inhabitants of the planet. The evolved ape turned to face this new threat. Nearby, the barrier hummed and sizzled hungrily. First fight, first blood.
