GZW BREAKDOWN!
I can't say I expected much, so I wasn't too disappointed when the only people who came were three high school kids and our next door neihbor, which meant only 40 bucks off this event. Oh well, we had no choice but to give em what they wanted -- up close in your face action.
Out first was Kory Williams, the young former pro football player, followed by the sexy Vanessa.
Vanessa: Well, howdy y'all!
The kids start booing her. What the heck? She's supposed to be a face!
Vanessa: Oh, my, my, don't my getting any testy on me yet darlings, I only just arrived.
More booes. Fucking hell, how was I supposed to know people in Tennessee hate redneck gimmicks?
Vanessa: Tonight we're going to have a special night, y'all! My good friend Mr. Kory Williams here is getting his first taste of in-ring action! Isn't that all excitin and stuff? Tell me, Kory, when you win that pretty lil' belt, are you and me gonna get to go out for some of that old fashioned alca'hol.
Kory Williams: Oh you know it baby.
Vanessa: Well by golly I'm am just SO excited now!
My ears stop bleeding when Jagged came out to shut them up and put Kory down.
Jagged: How sickening. When I was told I was going to wrestle I didn't realize there would be so much...light. But no matter, when I finish with you, underling, darkness will rule again.
The kids are eating this shit up. They're booing him, as planned, but he's really got them into it. Maybe it's the skull mask
Kory Williams: Man, just shut the fuck up, freak. Let's dance!
Vanessa was great, but her gimmick hurt it. Jagged saved it. 57%
Kory Williams vs Jagged, World Title Match Qualifier
What Kory lacks in mic skills he more then made up in his ring performance. The match was hardly what one could call good, but it was a decent opener, getting the fans partially involved with a 21% reaction. The match itself was no match of the year, but the stunt with Kory going head first into a tree was gold, 81% freakin quality. After the tree stunt, Kory put Jagged down with a DDT and won it after an acceptable 52% match.
Hardcore Ninja vs Tidal Wave, World Title Match Qualifier
The crowd was behind Tidal Wave the whole way, giving it a 28% crowd reaction, even though the quality was a lower 58%. But still, a decent match with good spots coming from the Hardcore Ninja. Tidal Wave set up for the Tsunami around the end and the Ninja rolled out of it and pushed Tidal Wave into the referree, Jason. While Jason recovered, the crowd ate up the cheap finish: a shovel to the head and a groggy pinfall. The really badly acted referree bump hurt this one. 43% overall, not too bad but still, not too good.
The kids liked Stevie the moment they saw him. He came out and stepped on the mat, all happy and grinning.
Silly Stevie: How are you all doin tonight? Tonight, my friends, is the start of a new legacy. A new era. Not only for the Ground Zero Wrestling, but for me, this man. Tonight I'm gonna face Jeff Flame, and tonight I'm gonna---
Right on cue, out came the ever arrogant, Jeff Flame
Jeff Flame: You'll what, Stevie? Huh? Cat caught your tongue?
Silly Stevie: Hey, man, I don't want trouble...
Jeff Flame: If you can't take the heat, god damnit, get out of the kitchen! Go! No one wants you hear anyway you idiot! I'm the man! This is my legacy! Now get out of my backyard!
Clearly, Stevie was getting pissed, and unleashed his other side
Silly Stevie: God damnit no one yells me at me, Flame! I'll fucking teach you to keep your god damn mouth shut! Now bring it!
The kids are loving it as Stevie knocked Flame down
Only a 54% unfortunetly. Shame, I liked it better then the opener.
Silly Stevie vs Jeff Flame, World Title Match Qualifier
Without the use of weapons, the crowd settled down just a notch with a 25% crowd reaction. A good back and forth match going all over the backyard, it settles a 68 match quality. Stevie shows good aerial assault by leaping off the hot tub. The match did struggle a bit though, as it dragged on towards the end where Flame taunted the split personality character. While he taunted, Stevie gained his energy, and hit a neckbreaker for the win. A decent 51 overall.
After sending the cocky oppenent back, Silly Stevie was enraged, all fired up. His crazy side was clearly out.
Silly Stevie: Come on Williams! Come on Ninja! I'm ready! Bring all the weapons you got! We're gonna blow this backyard to hell! Enough of Mr. Nice Guy, enough of the Mr. Play It Safe. The fans want some action, let's fucking give it to them!
I should give him a manager, he's alittle over the top. Only a 54.
Silly Stevie vs Hardcore Ninja vs Kory Williams, Hardcore Match for the GZW World Title
The highest crowd reaction yet at 33%, the three high school kids all over this match. Kory's speed, Ninja's hardcore battle, and Stevie's craziness made this the best match of the night. Still, though, wasn't exactly good, but for a backyard match I take pride in the workers. The match itself was mainly Stevie and Ninja, Kory getting bundled aside to and fro. Stevie took a couple DDTs on the concrete the wrong way and ended up bruised, but nothing too serious. Kory was put out early by being knocked off the hot tub with a shovel via the Ninja. After a good 71 hardcore bout, it was Silly Stevie who turned the tables on the Ninja. A lawn chair to the head and Stevie was the first World Champion!
The overall rating of the night was 51. Like just about the rest of the night, not too good but certainly not too bad. I'm proud of the first show and hope I'll look back and remember watching Kory fall into the hot tub after getting knocked with a shovel.
